Default PC DVD - HDTV upscale question.

We've just got a HDTV, and instead of buying a DVD player with a built-in upscaler. I wanted to use my PC, i searched Google and it came up with ffdshow and Zoomplayer Pro (Which i don't wanna pay for).

If i change my PowerDVD setting to the correct resolution...

Won't this upscale it properly?

Thanks.

Well, I played around with stuff like that, namely the upscale settings in ffdshow, since I wanted to make those bloody 350 MB Versions look better. Didn't really work, IMHO.

And the thing you have there in PowerDVD is useless, it changes the screen resolution. You should run your HDTV in its native resolution (which mostly likely you got th right one selected anyway...) and simply hit the fullscreen button...

What connection to your HDTV are you using? HDMI?
What are your graphics card settings? What signal is it using?
If it's set to 720p then you should scale to 1280x720, if it is 1080i/p then scale to 1920x1080 (not taking in to account overscan compensation).

1360x768 is not an HDTV resolution, so I wouldn't know what your TV would do with that, but if that is your TV's native resolution, you might as well scale to that.

I have my TV connected using a DVI to HDMI connection and I currently use Media Player Classic using automatic fullscreen scaling to 1920x1080.
I have my graphics card do overscan compensation.

You don't need any overscan compensation. With a WXGA Panel you're probably better off connecting it via VGA. This rather depends on the screen you have. That piece of info might be pretty important, btw...

I finally got my cable today... no thanks to the damn postmen who were on strike... AGAIN!!!

The TV's instruction manual says 'Best results are '1360x765'... I was told 1360x765, is the standard for a majority of HDTV's?

I tried TG 720p in both 1280x720 and 1360x765, 1280 does crop the desktop a little... however 1360 is fine. As soon as you make WMP11 run in full screen it looks the same.

Anyway 'Polar 720p' looks beautiful, so that seems to be working... and that's all that matters. images/smilies/tongue.gif

p.s. I've been using WMP 11 with no problems.

...............

Ok now DVD wise.
I don't know if i even did it right, but i installed ffdshow last week. I just tried 'Casino Royale' from the DVD in both 720p & 1080i resolution running on PowerDVD and it runs fine, although I can't tell if it has been up scaled.

I added the ffdshow filters to 'Media Player Classic' and tried running 'Casino Royale' again, however at the bottom of MPC it says resolution '720x576' so I'm not sure what... if anything i have to set up in ffdshow first.

This is the TV... Daewoo DLT 32 C 3

p.s. Sorry for the long and probably confusing post. images/smilies/cry.gif

p.p.s I love you all. images/smilies/biggrin.gif images/smilies/tongue.gif
