| This has been going on for a long time now, though it really isn't a big issue. When I first boot up my comp and open Firefox and use ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager and look at the amount of cpu being used, it's fairly minimal, usually about 1-2%. But I usually leave my comp on overnight for many nights in a row, without closing Firefox, and I often have 2 -3 windows open with about 4-5 tabs in each window. Checking the task manager again at this point, the cpu usage by Firefox is usually at 10%. Usually when it's gets to 25%, I do an end process and start fresh. Just 2 minutes ago however, I clicked a link that opened a new window. Now at this point, my computer had already been on for about 10 days now, and these Firefox windows were fresh from this morning. All of a sudden, opening this extra window caused my entire computer to grind to a near halt. I checked the task manager, and Firefox was using 98% of my CPU. My laptop is a P4 2.8 with 1G of RAM, so running Firefox isn't really an issue. Why did this happen? I kinda just want to know the reasoning behind Firefox all of a sudden using so much of my cpu resources.

BTW: Why do you leave your computer on for several nights in a row anyway ?.

| Hedgehog Sandwich | this happens to me too. i only notice when my FPS in Live For Speed goes to about 8! it takes a huge chunk of CPU even if you've only opened it for a few minutes. it doesn't happen every time, just once in a few days. i think it's a bug in this version and will be fixed as soon as FF is updated ![]() Lemans GTR: why not leave it on? if you can be sure it will be ok it allows you to set system checks, download/upload files, defragment your drives.

Rep Power: 19 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Windows doesn't like being on 24/7, it builds up tempory files and clogs the system. You should reboot every other day and when a chance comes along turn off your pc. If your impatient and your computer loads slowly, time to upgrade or buy and new pc ![]()

| Lazy Head Dude | I haven't turned my computer off for more than an hour or two (for maintenance) in many years (except when I'm out of town).

That's such a typical assumption... PCs dont get slow, do you think the CPU loses speed over time? If it loads slow or you feel its slow, format. It cant load any faster or any slower than the day you built it. | |

| The reason I usually leave it on all day is that I'm always torrenting something, and unlike a lot of people out there that close BT upon finishing, I actually seed when I'm done.
