I saw an old video with an Athlon XP 2500+ being stripped of a cooler when running 3Dmark2003. Upon cooler removal, it ran till overheating, froze, auto shut off. Then, replace cooler, reconnect, restart, works perfect.

True story. 8)

Not true, I can testify to the P4 taking over 100 degrees celsius. That was without water pumping through a water system. No cut out. Nothing. Still going.

I can testify for P4s as well, the CPU fan failed on mine once, it started throttling back at 65c just like it should, my motherboard made an unholy shreik too.

On my notebook my fans occasionally get filled up with dust, every few months or so, when that happens it struggles to get air to the CPU and graphics card and stuff really starts to overheat. Ofc when that happens my chip doesnt fry, as im still using it images/smilies/smile.gif , it just shuts down, well with a large beep to go with that hehe. But anyways I think that means were all pretty much agreed that the video was a bit stupid and that all modern chips have built in safety features, so wouldnt worry about removing a heatsink, if you were that stupid anyways.
