Default Screen tearing during video playback

During video playback for all .avi files, I'm experiencing quite a bit of screen tearing (winamp and VLC). Is there anyway to fix this? My WoW had the same issues, but it was easily fixed by enabling Vsync. Is there anything similar to this for videos?

Well, I got the most updated drivers for my card (8800GTX), and my monitor only has one refresh rate option: 60MHz.

Try with a higher or lower resolution? That really can't be the problem except if the video card couldn't handle the resolution which I don't think is possible.
