Default small Vista problem

Where can you access the "file type" settings?

in WinXP, its in folder options, where you can add/edit file extentions and change the way how it looks etc.

where is the same option under vista? i cant find it at all. I have storm codec pack installed, it normally comes with icons (XP/Vista) but after a restart now all the icons went back to the ugly vista default icons, and i dont know where i can change them back.

bleh... still dont like Vista.

Or you could right click the file, and choose open with. theres a little tick box that has "always use this program..." or something like that.

if it's a file type that you don't often use, you could just use the "open with" thing every time. IDK any other way though.

I believe he's saying the associations work fine, but the icons are not what he prefers.

That's probably due to the icon size. Each size has a different icon so it doesn't look fucked up.

If you change to the larger icon view, it may look fine.

nope. Vista is too evil, there is nothing i can do to change them. I know the icons work, cos they worked the first time when i installed storm codec, but after the evil WMP11 took over the file association, they went back to vista default ones.

i know how to do it in XP, but Vista has a complicated interface that makes you wanna throw a brick thru the screen.

cos its teh bestest codec pack ever... well not actually, but it just works, hasnt given me any issues before, not under XP.

it has all the codecs i will ever need, its the only thing i have to install, and then its simply double click on any multimedia file on my pc. i tried all the other ones, but just dont think they are as good as storm codec

Codec packs are a bad idea. The often cause conflicts, etc.

Just get FFDShow for common codecs (DivX, Xvid, etc.) and then VLC will play anything else.

Not sure, im pretty used to storm codec, as it seems to do everything so perfectly. But you are right about the bundle pack, its well over 60mbs, i wouldn't be surprised if it did cause some small minor conflicts.

I will give try VLC, if its a small program that runs min system resource then i might consider changing from storm codec to vlc player.

VLC is tiny and will play nearly anything. It's UI isn't the best, so I don't use it as my primary player, but it works great for those hard to play things.
