The parts he chose isn't bad. The only thing is that the Q9300 has a really low multiplier (7.5x) and from what I've read the IP35P doesn't clock that high. But 3ghz should still be easily obtainable. I hope he got the 9800GTX for no more than $200 though, because the 4850 is only $170 AR and it has the same performance.

Mobo is fine. Quad core is a waste unless you are gonna overclock. I'd rather get an E8400 and a good aftermarket fan with that sort of money.

Terrible GPU choice there, HD4850 is not only cheaper, but runs faster as well. Ram selection sounds fine, just make sure its from a reputable company. And change the HDD, WD 500gb is the old spec, rather go for the 640gb version or just buy the Seagate 500gb with 32mb cache.
