Default The new Logitech diNovo Edge

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/9272/dinovoedgebiggiefy6.jpg

Quote:
All you long-time diNovo loving fans can take heart -- Logitech's finally given a major overhaul to our favorite ultraslim, tactile, stylie keyboard. The new diNovo Edge (which runs on Bluetooth, of course) finally fixes some of the long standing issues we've had with the keyboard, including having an integrated battery (plus dock / charging cradle, much like Logitech's mice have long since had -- a single charge should supposedly last two months), light-up function keys that show which key mode you're in, and even throws in some new bonuses: Vista optimized media keys, a volume touchpad (with LED-lit meter), and even a trackpad with circular scrolling -- enough to give the Ultimate Keyboard Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 a run for its ultimate money. At $200 it's not a keyboard for the faint of wallet, but those who make room in their budget to afford it, well, it's probably because once you go diNovo you can't really go back.

Whoah, sweet thingie! Shame though of the differently shaped delete-insert-buttonfield stuff and the absence of the numpad.

They have the same layout on other keyboards. I actually prefer it over the older six-key design, more intuitive.

I have that layout on my keyboard as well, not especially bothered by it. I do like that new one, it's so thin and stylish. One won't exactly be embarassed by having that in their living room.

Aye, I am currently running a Logitech G15 until the Optimus comes out and I can take out a lien on my car to pay for it.

The configuration of the Delete and Insert cluster is different, but identical to some of Microsoft's keyboards. I actually prefer it for gaming. When I was playing Desert Combat I had that big Delete key as my parachute so I could smash it in a hurry when I bailed out at low altitude. It's also really nice when typing because you can reach over and immediately hit Delete when you want to. On the "standard" layout I am bumping Insert half the time when I go for Delete.

Just my $.02 on keyboard layout.

I'm not sure about this one, why would you need an ultra slim keyboard? Anyway the photo almost looks fake, as though someone photographed a regular keyboard and pasted the image on a thin backing then photographed it at an angle. The shadows on the keys just don't look right to me. Are we sure this isn't just a mock-up?

This is more of a living room laptop than a desktop one. I mean, why in the hell would you have a wireless desktop keyboard? images/smilies/smile.gif

Actually I quite liked having a wireless desktop keyboard. When I needed my desk space for books and papers I could just toss it on the bed behind me and shove the mouse in a drawer or stash it on top of my amp. The only reason I got a new keyboard was the wireless Microsoft was becoming somewhat unreliable and the key action was wearing out. It had a hard time maintaining the wireless connection, especially when I was gaming. The G15 was one of the only keyboards with the media keys I wanted and mappable keys for applications. I like a nice clean desktop so I mapped most my commonly used programs to the media and browser keys on the old Microsoft keyboard. This one has an array 18 mappable and macro keys that can run up to three different profiles. I also like the illumination and the fact there is a switch to disable the Windows key when gaming. I do miss the wireless capability, but there is no way to run all the stuff on the G15 on anything less than it's own power station. Everything is a trade off. I also bought a remote control since I can't take my keyboard's media controls away from the desk anymore.

It was not a cheap upgrade, but I'm happy with it. Now I get to decide if i want to build a new gaming rig.

I'm not too excited about it. Doesn't seem that spectacular, IMO. I never use keyboard strokes to start programs, so I don't personally see the need for programmable buttons, other than the fact that it looks cool images/smilies/wink.gif I have a bunch of extra quick-launch/media buttons on my logitech keyboard that I already don't use.
