It makes sense to not do SLI today with a 8800GTX since that would be overkill.
However a few years down the road, when a 8800GTX should be relatively cheap, it may be nice to be able to get another one.

It might make even more sense then to buy a decent midlevel card of the newest generation, which will be much smaller, consume much less power, and produce much less heat and noise.
but who am I...

I wouldn't think so.

I built my last PC 4 years ago with a Ti 4600, it cost alot but then I haven't had to buy a vga card since.

My way works, as I've done it before, atleast it works for me.

Yeah, I would buy the 8800 too if I could afford it....but I wouldn't have been able to hold out this long on a Ti4600 I upgraded from a Ti4200 a year and a half ago when BF2 came out, and have actually upgraded twice since then

I upgraded from a Ti4400 to a 8800GTS about a month ago.

I never would have made it that long with that card. For one, BF2 won't even start up with a Ti card.

Haven't played BF2, but Doom3, LFS, Half Life 2, etc... all ran well enough with the Ti4400 for the games to be playable at 1024x768 at a reasonable resolution level.

Of course now with the 8800, I run at 1680x1050 in super duper high detail mode.

Those games are all more than a couple years old BF2 is about a year and half old now, but still a pretty demanding game as far as hardware goes, especially if you want to run everything on high. I'm guessing a Ti4400 couldn't run Doom3 with everything cranked on high either.

In our dorm room we 3 360's 2 on SDTVs and 1 on an 73in HDTV projector. If we want to get blown away by graphics we can play on there, but when we all want to play competitively its hard when the other people can see your screen. Games are about game play not graphics. The forth guy has Wii by the way(just to show off (jk))

^ Nah... Disagree. When I was home during Christmas I was forced to play on my old TV which is a 32" crt, and I really didn't like it. When I got back to my apartment I would instanly hit TDU on the 37" LCD, it was sooo much better. I doubt I'm gonna take box home again...
