Only problem is that a masters degree in Computer Science is absolutely useless in the real world, unless you want to be neck deep in theory all the time. (P.S. I HATE THEORY, what good is it if you can't use it) If you actually want to do anything applied, you almost have to stop at a bachelors. Plus most of the companies here in the US that might want you to get a Masters, will pay for it after you work for them long enough.

But this is the new toys thread, so lets try to keep it to new toys. Feel free to start another thread elsewhere to continue the College/University Degree discussion.

Okay my new desktop set.

Here's the background. I wanted the Logitech MX3100 but i didn't feel like it was worth the money, >$100. So i figured out mx3100 really is just the MX1000 laser mouse + lx700 keyboard. So i figure i buy them separately so i can get two mice!

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/6394/mx31508nb.jpg

Mouse in the middle is MX1000. Mouse on the right is the LX700 optical.

Here is the carnage 30 mins ago:
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/8440/mx3100thecarnage4zz.jpg

Anyways, if i didn't swap out the recievers, I would've had to have both craddles on my desk. one for receiving signals, the other for charging. I thought that was ridiculous.

Looking to buy this Hi Def TV which supports HDMI aswell, and it is the Sharp LC-32P50E 32" LCD TV.

Found I can buy this for £800, would even sell my current TV. For this aswell as my Xbox before I get a Xbox 360 on 2nd Dec 05. But may just leave to buy it next year like in Feb 06 or March 06 w00t.

I wouldn't recommend that model - you should be spending at least £1000 if you're getting a 32" imo.

Consider the Toshiba 32WL56

I've just brought a Pioneed 436XDE from Andorra to a friend of mine.

Best 40+ inch flat screen by What Hi-Fi? in this year awards edition.
http://www.techdigest.tv/2005/10/what_hifi_award.html

4000€ here, 2750€ there.
The optional speakers 360€ here, 160€ there.

That Philips is considered the best one, btw.

I stopped considering a subscription when I thought about the will I'd had to buy a lot of those beauties. And the lack of money for it... But it's one of my favourite magazines.

I'll call his attention to that LCD for his bedroom. What's the price there?

\\\EDIT///Oh, forget it. It's just too expensive. The 37" version costs more than €3k. The 32" will be too much, too.

Well, it delivers the full 1080 resolution, thats why its no bargain...

I have thought about Plasma/LCDs a lot recently, and I wanted to buy the 37'' Benq with full 1080 resolution, but it doesn't have HDMI (but hdcp over dvi...) and the crappiest thing about it: If you connect a computer to it, it will only do 1024x768... WTF!!!
The only Test I read about it, said there is nothing wrong with it, but it could be built a little better...

A friend of mine has the Panasonic 42'' E500, dunno its exact name. Its always batteling with the Pioneer that was mentioned above over first place, at least here in Germany...

Just to throw in my $.02. I have never been impressed with cheaper plasma / LCD TVs. I am somewhat picky though when it comes to resolution, and can tell a pretty big difference in the quality of a TV. I have found that if you are looking to upgrade to a higher resolution display, that it's worth saving up for a really good one. I have upgraded two TVs (27 inch and 20 inch CRT) to two very nice high res displays (Panasonic Projector and a 24 inch Dell monitor (pictures are coming images/smilies/biggrin.gif)). I am much more satisfied with my purchases as a result of spending just that little bit more (they were about $500 more than the other options I was looking at) than if I had purchased the cheaper ones.

overclocked and unlocked my x800gto² (sapphire) lately and received a 46% 3Dmark05 point increase, up to 6300. Not bad for a card of 260 euro images/smilies/smile.gif

This year was a year for some new photography gear. My old Gateway 4mp camera was just not cutting it anymore. I'm not honestly sure how I managed with it at all now that I have this setup:

http://www.king-nerd.com/dood/images/minigal/Photography/equipment/thumbs/tn_med_IMAG0004.JPG
Kodak DX7590 and dock. I simply LOVE this camera. For $330, it was an excellent buy. Or, as Top Gear would say, good value for money!

http://www.king-nerd.com/dood/images/minigal/Photography/equipment/thumbs/tn_med_100_1015.jpg
Then my girlfriend bought me this Schneider-Kreuznach 0.7x all-glass lens, which makes a huge difference in indoor shots.

http://www.king-nerd.com/dood/images/minigal/Photography/equipment/thumbs/tn_med_100_1128.jpg
Then, after seeing many a thunderstorm go by, without being able to take advantage of my long-exposure settings, I decided to purchase a cheap tripod to try some new things. At around $20, it really is cheap, and it shows, too. While it's good once set up, you can tell that the legs are very wobbly, and it doesn't feel very solid at all. One planted on the ground, however, it meets my needs well, without breaking the bank.

Oh, and on the non-photography side, I decided it was time for a new videocard, so I went ahead and upgraded from my FX5700LE to this-

Finally...somthing to replace my old 133mhz Hitachi!! images/smilies/lol.gif
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/7237/dsc021460dq.jpg
Athlon 64 3200+
ATi Mobility Radeon X300 128mb
512mb PC-2700
100GB Hard Drive
DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo Drive

It's something to have around for friends to play on, or if I need it for other gaming/transfer things. Took me forever to find a AMD laptop at bestbuy. This one was only $750 w/ military discount images/smilies/biggrin.gif

http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/7052/dsc021481uu.jpg
LG DVD +/- Dual Layer w/ Lightscribe. Took me forever to get one..just never had the time to go off base to get a descent DVD burner. Does every single burning process known to man images/smilies/tongue.gif

Then I got AOE III since I have always like the series...though the sounds goes out sometimes, even though the patch said it was supposed to rid of that. Also go me a Logitech Rumblepad II for NBA Live '06 and Tiger Woods '06 on the PC..always played those series on the Xbox, so I thought I would give in and got a controller.

I spent so much on all that stuff..they are giving me $150 gift card in a couple weeks, so I'm gonna grab a BFG 6800U that I told them to hold on for me images/smilies/twisted.gif
