I got tired of using my laptop's touchpad plus it was starting to make my wrist hurt so I picked this up:

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/06/25/Picture_013.jpg

I had never considered or even tried a trackball at first so I was a little hesitant. But once I got to thinking about it the concept made sense. So far I absolutely love it! No more cramped touchpad fingers or pushing an ordinary mouse all over the desk. Navigating across the screen is easy with just a flick of the ball. Using my thumb to left click seems a lot easier than using my index finger. My favorite feature is the scroll button because it allows for a scrolling cruise control. The whole thing works great with FireGestures.

I guess it wouldn't be too bad for surfing or whatever, but I don't get the people who play video games with a trackball.

Hmm I had never thought of using it for gaming thanks to my slow old laptop but I think it would be rather good for shooters. If you use all four fingertips it's very easy to move the cursor around smoothly and quickly. I always sucked at using a normal mouse because I could never get any precision to aim my shots.

That's exactly my point -- using such a small thing for fine precision doesn't seem it'd work well.

With my mouse, I have like a full 12 inches, if not more, of horizontal width to fling my mouse around. Combine that with low sensitivity and I can fling my mouse and then make a minor correction to be right on the target. The accuracy comes from a large real life movement translating to a minor ingame one.

Ah maybe that's what my problem always was. I never had enough space to move the mouse around a whole lot. Of course that's also one of the benefits of the trackball. I can flick the cursor around all over the screen and the device itself stays put. I wish I had a machine that could run games so I could test out this theory. images/smilies/sad.gif

Usually I'm only within about 6 inches though. It's just when I have to spin around do I need to pick up my mouse a few times.

Why not wait for the LG Dare?
Yeah, I think it's great, really easy to use and everything, especially the HTML web browsing, but it is a bit on the big side and I worry about damaging the touch screen if I put it in a pocket.
But, seeing as how you dad can't get a new phone for a while he probably could just wait for the Dare, it looks pretty good.

I'm going to be replacing my card very soon. How can I know if my new card has a variable fan?

First time for me to post on this thread.. images/smilies/smile.gif

Yesterday I got this:

http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/mim.php/prodid/4840/vid/0/angleid/7/resid/2

It's a Lenovo L220X 22" which has a S-PVA panel (with 1920x1200 resolution) instead of the more typical TN. So it clearly has better colours and viewing angles but still it doesn't cost a fortune. Compared to my old Samsung 17" TFT TN panel the difference is huge images/smilies/cool.gif. Some people hate its looks but I like it since it doesn't look like something that was designed for 8 year olds images/smilies/tongue.gif.

Also got this:

I love it! I find it much better than a normal mouse. I find the precision is much more reliable, but then I havent used a raelly high spec gaming mouse.

*High Five!*

Its a great keyboard, and once you get used to it, it is so much easier to touch type than an older, flatter keyboard. Great piece of kit that. Although I don't like the mouse that came with it - I have an MX1000 instead.

http://www.d3stores.com/ruddos/img/productImages/Nike%20-%20Sumo2.jpg

Got myself a new Nike SQ Sumo2 on a wicked sale [500 regular, 175 on sale..lol]. And yes it has the USGA approval mark on it [some in the first batch had faults in them making them fail the tests, new ones have a mark saying that they have been approved].

I must say, I wasn't expecting a club to make a huge difference and really I didn't gain much distance [maybe 5-10 yards on average with the full connects going about 20-30 longer] but rather than being 40-60yrds off the right nearly every drive its on the fairway nearly 90% of the time [same swing].. and the sound.. well now I know why reviewers where either on the "its too loud and annoying" or "signature sound that all clubs should have" bandwagon.. haha I should say that my now old driver is 8yrs old and was in a 12-piece set for a total of like 200 bucks.. so yah, it was junk

And hey, there is tons of R&D and technology in golf clubs.. so yah.....

The kind of golf ball you use makes a big difference too. For the longest time I used some chap Top Flite and it was anybody's guess where the ball would end up. I've recently switched to Callaway three piece balls and man I love them! I can hit nice controlled draws all day without even trying. They feel much better coming off the club, not like the rock-like feel of cheap balls. Best of all I have a pretty good idea where the ball is going to end up.

Is it just me or are drivers getting ridiculously big? Pretty soon you'll need a separate bag so you have room for your other clubs.
