not everyone has their stereo and pc in the same room (I know I sure don't), let alone have them setup such that the stereo speakers are positioned correctly for pc use, thus people get specific speakers for their pc

Sure, that's a given but last time I checked speaker systems for the PC (ca. 1998) they were all crap. Especially since computers are moving towards complete multimedia systems the sound plays a much more important rule. Back then it was enough but today ?

oh, okay, I've misunderstood .

I suppose the advantage pc speakers can have is their size and the fact they can easily fit on the computer desk (woofers aside).

I couldn't be bothered to run a 30 foot line to the stereo at the other end of the room and then have the sound behind me, anyway these speakers aren't for my computer, they are for my iPod, which I used to hook to a Bose wave system, but that's no more... now, you'll probably ask me why I did'nt get one of those dumb dock systems, well I did'nt simply because those are rubbish, the only good one of the bunch is the Bose unit but that is $300. And anyway where do you get off telling me that these speakers are crappy, they're really quite good in my opinion, this coming from a person with a Bose wave radio and a three thousand dollar denon sound system. I'd like to think I'd know my audio equipment.

Come on, this is the Internet. Such remarks aren't to be taken the same way as outside. No need to imply that I'm trying to insult you/your choice of tech or sth.

Im way too tired to argue now. Let me just say this. I still don't see how anyone would prefer having a such a speaker set infront of him even if your stereo is a few metres away. If I would have been your situation I probably would have choosen a decent headphone instead.

You are absolutely right. Even a very decent 2.1 set can't sound like a decent stereo set with its own HQ amp and so on. Surround is something else off course.

Tomorrow I am to receive my Logitech Z-5500 surround system, which will, in combination with my widescreen TFT, make a good combination I suppose

everyone seems to be missing the fact that I will not be using these speakers for my bloody computer, they are for use with my iPod in my room, I have a stereo in the same room as my computer but I don't want the sound behind me, no big deal...

than you should know that Bose makes some of the worst sounding audio equipments in the industry (price/performance wise), they're nothing more than an over-hyped brand name and a marketing genius

hey VWKafer, we ae not specifically talking about you using the speakers for pc or ipod, we are just having a discussion whether it is neccessary to get speakers for a pc.....

I have had a 5.1 surround sound for my pc for a long time.....And I don't have a stereo or anything of that sort..... I would prefer to have a good Headphone....I have heard one and in my opinion it would be a lot better than my surround sound..

^ I am a huge headphone nut... any idea what were the headphones you heard?
and I fully agree with that, in the audiophlie world, headphones (or headphone rigs) are much cheaper than audiophlie speaker rigs and also performs much better at the same price range

Awesome speakers. I have the 680's which the 5500's replaced and they kick ass.

Oh, and my new toy:

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817145659

It's a SATA to USB 2.0 external enclosure for my 250 GB HD as the PCI/SATA card I had been using didn't like my new video card.

I can only manage 30 MB/sec off it due to it being USB, but it's just full of stuff that I really should burn. Heck, I've had the drive off most of the time I've had it.

I reckon Venus is the appropriate name for an 250 GB USB enclosure.

Since everyone else is showing off their new computer kit...

This little beauty just arrived today:

LiteON SOHW-1693S

Finally able to get rid of that horrible, ugly beige Samsung combo-drive.
