No they aren't, they have to have a specific model number and date on them for to be the new heatsinks. Some in stores now are the older ones.

O and don't buy another 360...the system as a platform has about a year and a bit left before the next one is out.

Well it's gone again. It was working fine, but died before I had the chance to use it. The it started up again, froze, and I got the RROD. Now it won't go away, even after leaving it for 12 hours.

My 360 is from december 2006, so it's quite an old one. I've never really had any problems with it before.

I did try the towel trick yesterday, and that worked for 10 seconds. I also have a Nyko Intercooler, but that didn't help either. I don't really like the idea of taking it apart and fixing it myself, a 2 week wait is nothing compared to £200. I'll get on to MS today and get it registered for UPS to pick it up.

I don't think they will ever make a fix for 360s before they are sold, as Nainanac said the 360 is reaching the end of it's life. These repairs are actually being paid for by the makers of COD4 anyway.

I got it on my launch console about half a year (or maybe a year, I've forgotten), sent it in to Microsoft and got it back in less than a week, and I haven't had any problems since.

Try this only if you can't send it to MS,don't know how reliable it is but
http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair...-clamp_fix.htm

There are a couple of 360 DIY fix it guides available too but you have to buy them.
http://www.threeredlightsfix.com/?hop=hochelaga

Youtube also has some videos of fixing it yourself so check that out too.
Apparently it should work with more heat sink paste added to one of the chips..

My first 360 was an NTSC version and I didn't have warranty and apparently in Dubai the only way to get it fixed is return it to the vendor and get it replaced..and mine was without warranty so alas. I ended up buying a second hand Pal version and it's given me no worries yet. Stick around with the Nyko though even though it adds to the noise but it's worth it.

Also, the 360 stays cooler if you keep it flat (horizontal) instead of vertical.

I've always had mine sitting flat and no problems so far.

I had the same experience, about 4 months ago. I sent it in, and got it back about a week and a half later, and have had no problems since.

I also don't believe COD4 is to blame. It's the system's solder on the CPUs that wasn't of a specific type, and would melt under heavy load.

As for the next version of the 360, I don't believe it is as imminent as some people say. The 360 still has lots of power that hasn't been used yet, and Microsoft isn't going to launch another console before the 360 has neared the end of its' capabilities.

I'm guessing because the there are vents on the sides, and when you stand it up on one end, it covers the vents.

Yep, since heat rises, it goes straight out of the vents when the 360 is on it's side, but when it's standing straight up the heat from the bottom rises to the top of the 360 and heats up other components on it's way to the top, which results in less efficient cooling.

I got one of these xboxs right about the time Halo3 came out. All I play now is CoD4, and starting like a month ago, whenever I turned it on, it would start to read the disc then suddenly stop. The green 360 start up screen would just stay static and I would have to push the eject disc button then push the disc tray back in for it to read the disc. This incident is a hit and miss and would do it sparodicaly. Has anyone else experienced this? Oh yeah, I've yet to get the RROD. *knocks on wood*

^ Sometimes when it tells me a friend is online, and I accidentally press the big xbox button at the same time I pressed 'play game' it'll freeze up like that and I have to eject/un-eject the disc to get it back.

I'm guessing this is what is going in my 360 when it is repaired. One of my friends had the same problem, and he says the 360 is much quieter now.

UPS came to take it away today, so we'll see what happens.

Not sure about on the outside of the box, but the included power supply is a lower wattage. The old one was 203v I believe.

First of all games don't cause the RROD, crappy design and engineering does.

Secondly, Microshaft have shrunk the cpu down to a 65nm process which runs cooler making it more reliable and they are also placing larger heat sinks with heat pipes on the cpu and gpu which improve cooling I believe all 360's manufactured in 2008 will have both.

Finally, don't use that Nyko cooler adding fans on top of fans does not aid airflow it restricts it, they are also known to short out and melt the rear portion of your 360.

sigh I'm on my third 360 and I'm hoping this one doesn't break soon. For some reason when they sent back my second one, it got the ring of death in under 1 week. but at least they were quick in sending it back to me cause it took about a week maybe?
