Car: Invisible boatmobile Rep Power: 50 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hey everyone. I'm trying to look for a desktop email client - meaning something reliable on my desktop that I can use that gets all my pop email from Berkeley, UCSD, and gmail. I love gmail because of the rock hard spam filter and the other filters I have on there, but I dislike going on to firefox to check it. I'd rather have all my emails in one client that I can just double click on the desktop. So I thought about thunderbird, but I wasn't sure how good it was. It looks sort of like outlook express (which I absolutely friggin hate), but I wanted to give it a second glance because its all about the heart and core. I don't want to be forced to relinquish my filters and the gmail spam filter, unless I can easily set up one in TB. So has anyone used it? Is it worth getting? Thanks beforehand for any help. |

Very good e-mail client, never had any trouble (except with the Mac version, but that's a Mac ). I'm not sure if it supports managing all your types of accounts, so I recomment checking that first. |

Rep Power: 16 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I´m using it since v1.0 (2005) and it´s so much better than Outlook epress or Eudora - though I have to say I haven´t tried them since so maybe they´ve gotten better. I was really pissed with OE, and I´ve never regretted the change. Thunderbird gives you everthing outlook express gives you plus a whole lot more, and it gives you full control. I really don´t have any criticsm about it, it´s never done anything wrong and backups are really easy. OE or TB is a complete no-brainer IMO.

| Using TB for a long while now. Best desktop e-mail client I've used, and I've tried several in time, including OE, eudora, incredimail, etc. Indeed it does what an e-mail client normally does and more. And it's as customizable as firefox, if not more customizable. And backups are very easy to do ... just copy the folder and EVERYTHING is saved. From your e-mails, settings and add-ons ... every last detail is saved so if you want to restore your e-mail for whatever reason, you won't have to go through a whole lot of setting up your accounts again. | |

| Squirrel Mincer | I highly recommend Thunderbird. I've been using it for a long while now (since I ditched Opera 7). I have it set to start up with windows and I also have the minimise to tray mod, which makes using it so much easier. As everyone else has said, it beats Outlook Express into the ground, and takes it's wallet, in broad daylight with everyone looking. Anyone who doesn't have the minimise to tray mod, get it. It's great knowing that I will NEVER miss an email when I am at my PC. ![]() |

I stopped using Outlook Express when one day, my inbox was just gone ... empty ... forever lost. ![]() I searched the web for info on this and found out that this just happens sometime. For me, there's just no email client as powerful as Eudora. |

I used outlook long ago, maybe it is better in some ways but you can get very comfortable with TB, backups are easy and the filters (spam and otherwise) are really good. |
