| I think I'll just let the stories speak for themselves: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7059881.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/7057812.stm Step by step, they're clamping down on this! | |

| Well, why don't they battle spam first? Spam targets everyone, not just billion dollar companies. Anyways, I don't really know what to think of it. I'm a man of principles and on one hand I agree it's theft, but on the other hand...I know some people who download. | |

| Wants Rick Astley's Babies | Nothing new here... Quicky also posted about oink being shut down... I hope they don't go after the users, even though I only had a couple of self mixed entourage music compilations from there... I guess they won't bother sifting through almost 200000 users, if they were able to get to the user DB---

| Wants Rick Astley's Babies | While that might help in Israel it doesn't at all in Europe. At least in Germany... And with the recent few busts: It comes and goes in waves, they raided every major us tvseries site 2 years ago and nothing since... Well, simply don't use emule or shareaza or bearshare for popular stuff. Chances are good its gonna be monitored...

| Why combat this? I tried to watch Reaper on www.cwtv.com. I can't because I'm not a US citizen. Open up these damn sites so that everybody can watch. Quality is good enough so that you can watch it online. I watch some shows like that without a problem. Corner Gas and TSN being two of them. They are always alienating themselves because it is better to go after some poor chap and sue them for millions (outright fucking wrong). Also, I can get cable TV for about $150 a month to get everything that I would like to watch or I can get an Internet connection for $40 per month. Which one will I choose?

Car: Astra 1.4ls 1995 Rep Power: 0 ![]() | You do realise that while a dynamic IP address masks who you actually are when online to others it doesnt mask it from your ISP and their logs. They will have a log of when you got the IP address from and till. So for anyone tracking you and your usage of illegal sites it is not really that much harder to manage. Just a matter of matching the IP address to the time that it was seen downloading and then matching that to the ISPs logs. The only true way to avoid being detected to a 99% certainty is to use applications such as privoxy or other proxy systems. |

The only true way to protect your identity is through Anonymous Proxy as I said in my last post. I have never heard of any other truly safe way to protect yourself than this. However I am of course open to suggestion. | |

Car: Volvo 940 Turbo Rep Power: 23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I remember reading a story where the RIAA went after someone for illegal file sharing and the defendant pointed to his "open" wireless network. Since there was no way to prove who was connected to the network at the time in question, the RIAA dropped the case.

Car: Astra 1.4ls 1995 Rep Power: 0 ![]() | THGL there may be another case on the topic however the one I think you are talking about was a womans defence claimed that it could of been someone else using a wireless hub that was unsecured. However it recently came to a close (not that I can find anything on it as always) and she was still made liable for the full whack of something to the lines of $200,000+ because it was shown she didnt have at the time a wireless router through the Mac address tracing. |

Rep Power: 26 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The end of the 2nd gen p2p is drawing near with more companies and users gettign sued, we need a similar program to the Japanese P2P program Share or Perfect Dark (or at least translate those two programs to English and promote them to the English speaking users).

Car: MY07 G11 WRX-TR WRB. Rep Power: 91 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I just do not download popular torrents. If something big comes out, like a movie, I'll just wait a year or so to download it. Same with music. The music I download is a little blip on the radar.
