I still think that releasing games with ridicously high system requrements is worse than that.

do those games exist? which games then?
AFAIK you can play almost anything on a low-budget ATI Radeon 9250 at 800x600 at low settings.

I think the high specs for the game itself is not surprising. But the specs that are required to just run freakin Vista is insane.

From the article, it sounds like you need atleast a 256mb video card w/ probably 1gig of ram and a 2.0ghz+ processor to handle Vista.

Default Halo 2 Coming to PC, but only for Windows Vista

Microsoft sent out a press release announcing that a dedicated Microsoft Games Studio team is working on a PC port of Halo 2, to be released for the Windows Vista platform:

Quote:
Only for Windows Vista, "Halo 2" will offer gamers both the single-player campaign and multiplayer experience of the original, as well as the additional maps offered in the "Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack." Gamers will also have the exciting opportunity to build, create and customise their own multiplayer levels.
More details can be found on Bungie.net:

Quote:
Q: Why has it taken so long to port Halo 2 to Windows Vista?
A: Bungie Studios and Microsoft are committed to delivering and creating the highest quality experience of Halo 2 on the Windows Vista platform. As such, the development of Halo 2 for Windows Vista coincides with the development of the Windows Vista platform itself in order to ensure the title's uncompromised quality.

Q: Why are you releasing Halo 2 for Windows Vista only?
A: As Bungie Studios and Microsoft are dedicated to delivering a top quality translation of Halo 2 for the PC, their efforts require the use of the best available technological platform for Windows games. Windows Vista will help bring clarity to our customers and help them get more out of their personal computing experience, allowing them to focus on what matters most to them.

Q: Why is Halo 2 for Windows Vista not backwards compatible?
A: To deliver an optimal gameplay experience, Windows Vista will provide a great platform on which to bring to Halo 2. Microsoft and Bungie Studios will provide additional information at a later date.

Q: Is the release of Halo 2 for Windows Vista just a way to force consumers to purchase the new operating system?
A: Absolutely not. Bungie Studios and Microsoft's steadfast commitment to quality determined that the Windows Vista platform would provide the best possible version of Halo 2 for the Windows PC. We will provide you with more details in the future

^ You can already play Halo 2 on the Xbox 360 via an Emulator images/smilies/wink.gif (since its an Xbox 1 game and has been out for a year)

But come on, Bungie fuckers. Just admit that you want to push Windows Vista! Its the same as all the Xbox only games. Plain stupid...
Well, at some point I'm gonna have my current computer as a XP fileserver and the next PC I'm gonna buy, will get the Vista shit everntually...

Windows is good for anyone and everyone who isn't a Computer Scientist or an extreme computer hobbyist. Linux is good, but only if you know what you are doing (then again windows can be good as long as the user takes proper care of it). I personally suggest for casual users (web, email, etc...) to use OS X, as it is the easiest to use and is much more simplified when it comes to protecting the user from themselves.

On the Halo 2 thing, big surprise... Microsoft has done this before, and Vista changes a lot of things, especially the ways that software interfaces with DirectX. It would be very time consuming to build two versions for XP and Vista. The upside should be that it will be extremely easy for companies to port Xbox360 games to PC (should they decide to do so), as the Vista API is allegedly similar to the Xbox360 API.

You likely won't be able to play Xbox360 games on Vista for the same fact that you can't play a lot of Xbox games on the 360, the emulation is a pain to effectively make work. They may try it, but I REALLY doubt it.

hehe, no, I've used every edition since 3.1

Millenium was the worst, no doubt about that...

I'm by no means an MS fanboy, but it's what I use and I have very few complaints. So Bill is a bit greedy. Who cares. Let the nerd have his money. He had the motivation (or geek skills) to get where he is I guess images/smilies/wink.gif
