Cars in GT4 can drift just fine without nitrous, although power-over is not exactly accurate. You just have to get around the power-over problem with different techniques.

Actually GT4 goes all the way up to 1080i, does look a lot cleaner though the texture is still pretty low res.

Well, if the Xbox 360 is, then the PS3 would be too, right. images/smilies/wink.gif

I think a PS2 and Gran Turismo 4 would keep me occupied for many years. I have played LFS for 2.5 years and I'm still not bored of it even though it has only 20 cars and 7 tracks. GT4 has WAY, WAY more variety.

Also, I was browsing for a full car list and I found that the official one here might not be completely accurate because I found another one here and it has WAY more cars than the official one. The second one is from 2004, though. images/smilies/sad.gif

Can someone please double check for me which one is correct?

Thanks.

That was you that posted the vids of yourself drifting. Nice driving. But its just not as fun for me because the car isn't reacting the way it would in real life (power-over/powerslide).

Didn't realise you could get component out, but I don't have component input on my TV. images/smilies/sad.gif

Just checked and maybe I should have set-up for 16:9 and progressive scan before I started images/smilies/mellow.gif (the TV kept "detecting input source" and flicking from 4:3 to 16:9), but with a regular RCA video cable, will it make a difference? Any idea if S-video is worth it over composite? They're both SD.

I don't know what pricing is like in the US, it was just that you mentioned $350 for a 360 and then were talking about a wheel (up to $250), just wanted to suggest holding off (prices dropping, second hand units coming up for sale), saving a little and getting the PS3. In that case, I'd get the PS2 and keep saving.

Ok. I don't want to sound mean or anything but, please stop posting prices and the lot for the Xbox 360 because I am most probably getting the PS2 now because the 360 won't justify it's price difference over the PS2 because I don't have a HDTV.

And please read and reply to my posts because I am trying to get as much help in answering my questions as possible (i.e. my post about GT4's full car list).

Thank you.

Seemed to be some discussion about the second list (it seemed to be first made before the game was released and edited later) and I don't remember any Lambos myself (I'll have a play this arvo and let you know), I'd believe the list on the official PS website.

Awww. That's a shame because, imagine that list was real (the second one)? It has all those Lambo's, some other cars I would have liked, and THE BUGATTI VEYRON!!!! images/smilies/cry.gifimages/smilies/cry.gifimages/smilies/cry.gif

I didn't mean you have to use nitrous to drift. But it's a good way of initiating a drift and keep the drift going in GT4, I think of it as a substitute for clutch kick.

I pretty much take back what I said. Drifting can be fun, you just need the right car, right set up and a bit of practice. Its pretty challenging (especially on a controller) but its nice hooking together 3 apex in a row. images/smilies/smile.gif

Thats some sweet editing in that vid, too.

images/smilies/thumbsup.gifDrifting in GT4 sure is challenging but extremely rewarding when done correctly. awdrifter you are right, nitrous does help to initiate a slide to (somewhat) overcome the lack of power-over in GT4. Usually I try to keep my cars mildly tuned so the idea of using nitrous never crossed my mind, which is why (as you can see in the video) I almost only use faint drift and a little bit on braking during corner entry to do angle correction.

Thanks for the compliment on the video, took forever but I had tons of fun making it.

Ilpav, GT4 will last you hours and hours, go for itimages/smilies/smile.gif

i have a similar dilemma as Ilpav.

I don't have modern TV so I don't have HD technology (yet).
I want to buy a great racing game, but I'm torn between GT4 (which I've already played and which is AWESOME) and GT5.

problem is, GT5 requires I buy a PS3, which I don't mind, but isn't it a waste on a "regular ass" TV? Also, it's only the prologue, the full game will cost me another 60€ in a year or so. it does mean I get a Bluray player though. That, and online multiplayer, which should rock

On the other hand, GT4 does not have Ferraris and Lambos and all of the new cars in it. It does mean I get a relatively new game with hundreds of cars for 150€.
It would also mean I could get the FULL game, and if I want to buy another game, I can get one for 10-15€ as opposed to 60-75€.

I really don't know what to do here. I'm not obsessed with having the latest in technology all the time, but those previews on TV of GT5 make me weak at the knees. I just don't know if they make me 400€ weak at the knees...

I'll be playing my PS3 on my computer's 24" monitor. It's the only HD capable display I have. images/smilies/smile.gif

Well, don't base your decision solely on your TV. Even on a non-HD TV, the PS3 will look MUCH better than a PS2.

I play 360 on both an HD and a non-HD TV back and forth (depending on where I am), and it still looks amazing on the non-HD compared to last gen consoles such as the PS2 original Xbox. Sure, it's not as sharp as the HD, but it's still looks great nonetheless.

If you like the GT series and can spend the money, go with the PS3 (not the 40GB version though, cause it's not backward compatible) and just get both GT4 and GT5P (or just get GT4 for now and wait for the full GT5 to come out).

They don't sell anything but the 40gb in most territories

I actually never thought of playing GT4 on the new PS3... not a bad idea...
