Default What's broken in my Computer?

When i went to turn it on today nothing happend, other than the lights and fans in the case started but no start-up beep or noise from GFX Fans or HDDs.

I haven't been fucking around with it and it's been running great for the 3 months i have had it (Self build)

I tried unpluggin everything i diddent need to check, so i only had Mobo + CPU + RAM in there without any change.

I tried switching around the RAM without any change..

I tried taking out the little battery on the Mobo to reset the CMOS? without any change.

Right now im thinking it's either the Motherboard, CPU or PSU..

But wouldent it give me a Error Beep if the CPU was busted? And wouldent it not turn on the light's and fans ect. If it was the PSU?

Help me images/smilies/sad.gif I don't want to RMA a part thats working fine and get stuck with the Tech Bill.

If the lights and fans turn on and nothing else, it's probably your MoBo. Is there a (non)blinking led light coming on anywhere on the MoBo? Every pc is different but it usually means trouble. You should take it to a local computer repair place and have do a simple diagnostic test. It (at least where I live) should be free, or at most a little fee. That way, you'll know for sure.

Yeah the light on the Mobo is on. But that probably just means it's getting power.. I'll look into a repair place, i haven't thought about that one.. Though i'll probably just get a new Mobo and if it works i'll RMA the 'old' one or if it's still broken return the new one.

Sounds like a problem with the CMOS, but if you've tried resetting it then it sounds like the Mobo. Would be interesting to know what board it is, I'm using an ASUS one with a power light on it.

See if you can follow the manual for resetting the CMOS, you might have to do something special, and leave it for at least 5 mins before re-iserting the battery.

Most mobo's have a simple jumper to clear the CMOS, not sure that taking the battery out would be enough.

Removing the battery if you don't have the power connected to the psu is enough.

I'm thinking mobo or cpu too. Leaning towards the mobo..

Take out the GFX card and try to boot-up, then try the Sound card, keep trying that for all the cards you have.
If one of them is causing the problem, the card is fried.

What is the last normal screen that apprears and what happens after that, or is it just blank the whole time? Does the monitor come out of sleep mode for even a second?

Yep it's the mobo.images/smilies/tongue.gif

I agree with those above that it is a mobo issue. It still could be a CPU/PSU problem but the mobo seems to be the most likely culprit.

If you're not getting any kind of beeps (and it either has a built in speaker or you have the system speaker hooked up) then it's pretty much guaranteed the mobo. I've only seen a cpu not cause a beep once.

Have you tried unplugging the power cable, waiting 10 minutes and then plugging it back in? Yes, I'm serious. Yes, it's worked countless times before on different computers.

Try it.

As I said, I've had this problem with my own Asus board, caused by me cutting the power during start up (don't ask). All it took was removing the battery and clearing the CMOS. I had the same symptoms, no beeps or video. My fans didn't even kick up to full speed.

Try booting the system with only the base stuff needed: Mobo, CPU, RAM, Power, Video.
If it boots up then, try connecting stuff back one by one.
Else: one of the above is probably bad.
