Default What's your backspace/return/r-shift cluster layout?

Spawned by a discussion in the new toys thread.

We have 2 different layouts around the house, mostly because mum's laptop is imported from germany (cheper, but german layout) with the single row return key and another button above it.

Mine (and the other 2 pcs) looks like this:

http://icebone.dyndns.org/enter.jpg

My brother in law's is the same, but the backspace key is only a single letter key's width, really weird... And don't get me started on how many different widths there are for the right shift key. So i was wondering, how many different layouts there are out there?

I'm not sure what you're talking about but I have a standard 101 key English keyboard with a small return/enter key, as opposed to the big ones that take up more than a row.

It's blurry and dusty, but here's my Logitech Office Pro keyboard:

I have the same as Ice. I don't think I could instantly touch type on one of the Logitech ones. I'd have to be more careful as to where I tap for enter.

Yeah, it's not just Logitech. If you take a peek at Newegg you'll see that the majority of North American keyboards are laid out like that, just a few examples from the models I browsed through to compare:

This is the layout on my keyboard, an LG-branded EZ-9930, basically the cheapest keyboard I could find locally:

I can't stand multi-row keys. Thye drive me nuts.

Here's an image of mine (which is identical to 99% of keyboards I see around here that aren't really old) that I found via Google:

I've got the same as Ice, but with a hash (NA call it pound for some crazy reason - it's not - £ [pound] - # [hash]) where that strange character is below the solidus [~]. I bet this does not work due to different code tables - but hey I tried!

Cobol: that does look like a hash, maybe a bit out of focus. That's not strictly my keyboard, i just couldn't be arsed to take a pic of it so i just googled for one that has the same shaped keys. Here's one, but the backspace key isn't visible:

Good old cheapest thing around $10 keyboard. images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm not a gamer or a programmer so I don't need a fancy keyboard.

I think IBM was the pioneer of the single-line enter key, way back when, but that's history I don't feel like delving into.

Roman, I have basically the same as you! Although I am a gamer.

I do have a Logitech MX1000 though, so no crappy mouse for me.

And I love the stupid warning. How can you get a serious injury from using a keyboard, other than to smack someone round the head with it? images/smilies/lol.gif
