Default Windows 7 screen shots

sauce

Quote:
Windows 7 (formerly known as Blackcomb and Vienna) is the working name for the next major version of Microsoft Windows as the successor of Windows Vista. Microsoft has announced that it is "scoping Windows 7 development to a three-year timeframe", and that "the specific release date will ultimately be determined by meeting the quality bar." Windows 7 is expected to be released sometime in 2010. The client versions of Windows 7 will ship in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. A server variant, codenamed Windows Server 7, is also under development.

Microsoft is maintaining a policy of silence concerning discussion of plans and aspirations for Windows 7 as they focus on the release and marketing of Windows Vista, stating that Microsoft does not want to promise features and then fail to deliver, as happened with Windows Vista Ultimate, though some early details of various core operating system features have emerged. As a result, little is known about the feature set, though public presentations from company officials have disseminated information about some features. Leaked information from people to whom Milestone 1 (M1) of Windows 7 was shipped also provides some insight into the feature set.

Looks pretty good, let's just hope it won't steal more system resources away.

Why does Microsoft always rip off the European market more?

It's like $290 to get a legal copy of Windows Vista Ultimate in South Africa, and AFAIK, most European countries are selling M$ Vista OS around that kind of price range.

Compared to the states, its like around $170, quite a significant price drop.

Enough with the 32-bit OSs already. 2 GB of RAM is already common today, so it's not much of a stretch to assume 4+ GB will be common in 2010, so most people are going to need a 64-bit OS anyway, and keeping a 32-bit version around just encourages developers to be lazy and not write 64-bit drivers and plugins (I'm looking at you, Adobe Flash Player).

Windows 7 is merely Vista + mods at this point anyway. It's not a real OS of it's own.

Totally fake; their mockups not screenshots, except for the shot that comes up with the property's screen of build # 6519.1.1.x86fre.winmain.071220-1525 (or in english that's Milestone 1, complication 6519 for 32bit processors, wide distribution, compiled on Dec 20, 2007 at 3:25pm PST.) Currently Windows 7 looks like Vista. It was the same for the early builds of Whistler, or going back to Neptune, Memphis, etc... the early builds almost always look like the previous system.

6519 was the M1 build and it looks nothing like any of the other shots. M2 (6574) isn't even close to that either, so the person took 6519 and skinned it. The other shots you can't really make out build numbers, but the first on this post seems to say beta... there is no beta yet and it's missing the other information entirely. Some don't have build information at all, and unless you regedit that out (which no one with a real build would do), it's going to be there.

I wonder how much speculation I could cause by digging out my builds of Windows Neptune, skin it up a bit, and post that it's some new Microsoft system.

Edit: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/win7_6519.asp <- There's some real M1 screenshots.

What i've heard is that they will re-invent the windows core so it's smaller, loads faster, etc.

Who cares? It probably won't come out until 2015, if Vista's delay is any indication. They kept delaying Vista and eventually all they did was postpone the features that were holding them back to Windows 7 and released Vista sans things like WinFS.

Also, that GUI looks needlessly complicated. They made Vista harder to navigate and use than XP, and it looks like it's gonna get even worse. Take a hint Microsoft - we need a simple and effective GUI... things like the stupid Welcome Center that pops up by default are what I'm talking about.

I have a better idea : instead of making more complicated systems that take up 18 GB of memory we don't have, why not make the next version EASIER on processing power and memory

srsly?

the only thing is that people want all kinds of drivers, Plug and Play, image candy and functionality in their OS and than they complain about the fact it's huge...
