Whatever, just looks like tons more fluff to me. Where's the version of windows that won't take up a thousand million resources and is designed for the serious user?

the thing I cannot stand about microsoft is that they have so many features, overly designed (looks wise) but do not have any decent UI at all.

With all do respect of all the opinions and points been made..

Personally, I'm not sold to the idea of Windows 7 at all.. quite honestly I'm not sold to the fact to ever use windows again.

I was a big defender of Microsoft and Windows, but is just me or I feel that I'm being ripped off every time Microsoft shits out a new product especially a new Windows.

For crying out loud they have ripped off a whole ton of people by the peace of crap called "Vista" and mind the internet hype everyone I know hates the day that they upgraded to it or even worst bought a Laptop with a pre-installed Vista, and even some of them want to downgrade and can't because the Laptop manufactures played the dirty card of not supporting drivers for Windows XP if you want to downgrade from a pre-installed Vista laptop.. *cough* Dell & HP.

I'm running a Windows XP Pro now and I'm willing to get a new laptop by the beginning of next year and my mind is 99% sold to get a MAC. Love me or hate me for it but this is how I really feel, its just make more sense to me.

^^

If you hate Vista so much it just means you're running it on a sup-par machine, you tried it before SP1 (XP Sucked before SP1 too) or you're just echoing the other idiots on the interwebz.

I never said that I'm running a Vista, but yes I do hate itimages/smilies/smile.gif

I totally agree with you that XP after SP1 and SP2 changed dramatically. But was it the dream machine that you always wanted and worth your money? I don't believe so.

I really don't get all the Vista hate. I've had no more problems with it than XP on this laptop, and performance is fine. I could go on forever about this but I'd like to know why people who have never even used it hate it so much.

I HAVE been using it for the last 7 months and I can report that its a mixed bowl. On one hand, it looks much better than XP and the new animations are seriously cool. I like the increased driver support, and it's a bit more userfriendly. On the down side, there are so many useless security applications that need to be disabled. It runs very slow after half a year of usage, and it's a resource hog compared to XP.

I used Vista for a week, before spending an AGE trying to figure out what it had done to dual boot with XP so i could remove it. I agree with the above about the pros and cons, however found also that Microsoft had tried to be too clever (or been too stupid) with the way they'd arranged things - i found that trying to find simple configuration options that were fairly easy to locate in XP had been made more difficult.
I realise that it was only a week, and there were the same problems when moving from 98/ME to XP and you just had to get used to it, although the innaccessibility of and some seemingly hidden options put me off straight away - its almost as if they don't want you to fiddle with anything, and don't want you to know what's going on..
(Plus, what's with that sidebar? There's a clock in the corner.. why by default do they provide another?? They seem to have tried a little too hard to get in on the whole widgets thing, and its unnecessary i feel)

Just my opinion.. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

^ Oh come on... what settings were you after that you had trouble finding? Yeah, a few items in Control Panel have been renamed, but the new names are clear and you can just go by icons usually.

And about the clock thing... it's useless, I agree. But even OS X for Mac has one preloaded in the widgets Dashboard. I guess it's just the most basic widget so it's included, has nothing to do with trying hard.

i can't see the point in the two sodding version 32bit and 64bit. They should just do 64bit from 2010 on and be done withit otherwise you will not have enough sodding addressing and all the stupid developers will only do 32bit junk.

Oh i forget now, i just remember that being quite annoying. I agree that they'd probably be easier to find if you were a new user, and there was exactly the same problem when XP was new.. It was probably just what i was used to - they seemed to have split options up more so there were more icons and to me that looked more cluttered.

I guess i can't complain about the sidebar as it can be removed - just felt it seemed like something that was added when they were desperately trying to think of 'new and interesting' things to include.

About the clock thing, I don't think it's completly useless. I have it on my second screen so I can see the time when I've got something going full screen on my main monitor (the one with the clock on the taskbar.)
