Try to download the 7100 build, you'll get a key, go change it to that and activate. Maybe it'll work.

Just installed 7100 on my redundant HD and so far I'm impressed. The 64 bit version is very fast, all my standard hardware was already installed for me and I had firefox running straight away. This is going to be a good year until it expires.

I'm not going to install it on my main rig at home just yet. I have it installed on a slow PC at work - a Pentium 4 with 768 MB of RAM. It runs just about OK. It runs better when you switch to the classic theme

I got a key from Microsoft though, did you? There's some going around torrent sites which is a bit funny, given Microsoft is giving them out free at the time being. Quote:

To those people who installed this with a flash drive how did you do it? I have found alot of tutorials online but they are all a little different. What method did everyone use?

I'm running the latest build virtually on my MacBook. Essentially anything I click on gives me the error message: Windows can not access the specified path, device, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them.
Any idea what went wrong? Other than running it virtually on my MacBook. I think its time to actually install it using Bootcamp. |

That most likely.

Yeah, I figured.
I'm gonna try to burn it onto a dvd and install it with Bootcamp from there. I don't need Windows for anything in particular, but just the fact that I can do it makes me want to so much more. |

Okay, I've run across a bit of a problem...
I just had my power supply and HDD replaced and I have tried to install 7 to no avail. I burned the ISO and I fixed the BIOS to read the DVD and it did. Then it tells me something about not having drivers- my wireless USB mouse is not functioning and I turn the computer off. Upon restarting it, I only get a black screen and nothing else...any suggestions? Thanks /highjack thread

Holy shit, already with the RTM?
Makes me glad I don't have a set amount of bandwidth, I've spent like 20GB on W7 downloads this year. |

What's RTM? Released to manufacturing (quick google search found that, but not sure)? And isn't it possible to just update from RC to this?

Well if it's the real RTM then I guess you can't just upgrade... didn't they say you couldn't upgrade any of the betas? I figured that included the RC too.

I'm guessing they'll come up with a way to upgrade 7100 to 7127. Any changelist, btw? |

There is no changelist, release candidates are feature-complete, between RC and RTM only bugfixes are accepted.

So in theory you should be able to upgrade via patches only.

No. The difference between an RC and RTM is the amount of debugging that is built-in. the RTM build has far less debugging in it's code. That is why all RTM versions are a lot faster than beta and RC versions. Because of this, almost all binary files differ between the RC and RTM versions, so a clean install, maybe with USM is a far better choice than an upgrade.
