I have wireless lan, I bought that wireless rounter and the pc card and it cost like $200+ but its worth it, its VERY fast. But you can't hack it, you will need to spend some major $$$ in order to do that and not to get caught.

the problem with airsnort is that for it to work effectively on a fairly well encrypted network (like boeing's connexion service on airliners) you would need something like a week's worth of interesting packets, or a supercomputer to break the key. I have never been on a flight that has offered the service so I do not know exactly, but im fairly certain they use a decent encryption.

The other option, which frankly is much easier to implement on a security standpoint is to put you on a fake network when you connect, and not let you on to a network that routes to the rest of the internet until after you pay for the service, where it records your machine address code with your payment account, and then as long as you are paid, you will be automatically moved to the network with internet access. There really is no way to break this system, its too well protected in most cases to be able to gain access without paying for it.

In other words, its not really possible to steal internet on a flight, no matter where it is going. images/smilies/sad.gif

If you don't want to get hacked, get a router with WPA encryption. It has been hacked before, but it's encyrption algorythm constantly changes codes, so a hacker can only stay in for a few seconds.

This whole conversation is getting a little questionable in terms of legality, but if you want to break into... your own router... just for fun.... you would need a program like AirSnort. Let it go out and analyze enough packets, and you should get the encryption code after a while.

Edit: I just read what Hokiethang wrote, and he's right. If they have 128-bit WEP you won't be able to break it unless you have a really really long time to sit there. If it's 64-bit WEP, you can have it cracked in a matter of seconds.

Every single question you've asked could be answered by using Google for 30 seconds. images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Ofcourse you can hack it, if it is only secured by a WEP-key, just ask any Linux-geek (excluding me, I'm just the know-it-is-possible-chap).

Oh and it's only possible in Linux, since you cannot switch your WLAN-card to 'Read' mode in Windows.

Cheers images/smilies/eek.gif
