| Ok I'm stumped on this one. I just got a new Linksys wireless router and I can't get my laptop to connect. It says its connected, but it really isn't...wtf?? My DS and PSP can get on just fine. I've tried the disk that came with the router and the system setups and nothing. Everything worked fine on my old Belkin router. I've got an Acer Aspire 5000 series if that helps. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Make sure everything is in it's default settings. Connect to the router, make sure you type the key correctly if you're using encryption. (you should) Most of the time that does the trick. If not, we might need more info. Like what do you get when you type in "ipconfig /all" at the command line? |

| Global Moderator | And make sure there are no buses passing between your laptop and the AP (Kip is experienced on that one )Seriously though, check your IP settings (try setting an ip in your internal range on your laptop, so no dhcp), check your routing table (try flushing it's cache), do you have MAC-filtering enabled? |

You'll recognise them by their bigness, and the lack of wifi signal on the other side. Some side effects include; -quite a bit of CO2 output -bad mileage -expensive to ride -annoying people on cell phones -minorities -the ability to kill you -they always stop in the wrong place before you reach your destination Some new busses do have their own wifi, but all the other negative points still stand. | It sounds like you blocked your laptops MAC address, but this is what I will do and it always fixes any problems, Hard Rest your router and start all the settings again ![]()

| Hedgehog Sandwich | sound like the MAC address to me too. our router is Linksys too, and the same thing happens with my PSP if i don't set it to allow the MAC address. hit the reset button on theback of it |

| Alright I'm back now. I guess my isp decided to beef up for the next few days onslaught of online shoppers. I hit the reset button on the back of the router with no luck. I'm thinking its some setting on my computer that's blocking everything. I can't connect even with no encryption on the router. Is there a way to make sure all the settings are the defaults? Where do I find my laptop's MAC addy?

| What should I use to set up the wireless part? The router cd? IP addy in the address bar? The windows program? I've spent three hours playing around with the settings. All I want to do is set up my wireless router in my own house, how hard does it have to be?? ![]()

| I just don't understand why it says I'm connected when I'm not. It's sending packets but not receiving them. I didn't have any problems connecting to my old router but this one is being ridiculous!

| Kajun, you said you resetted the routed, was it a hard rest or soft reset? I was saying you should do a Hardreset, you'll have to read in instruction manual to see how to do that

| I've tried pushing the button on it til it resets and simply unplugging it. I looked in the manual and couldn't find any other way to reset it. The only other way I can think of involves a sledge hammer, and its getting really tempting.

| hmm... I used to have a Linksys router at home (It was the one with 3 antenna's I think it was SMX or something like that)... according to tech support, he says pressing it = hard reset, a soft reset has to be done on the router page, but just give a call to tech support and ask them what's going on.

| LOL @ router cat I need to get the wireless working soon because of network cable chewing puppy.I reset the router settings on the router page and it said it rebooted. I think that covers the restarting stuff. I think the next logical step is bitching to tech support.
