I had a few quick questions about wireless routers. We're getting a wireless-N router in our new house which is fairly large and I was wondering if one router would cover the whole house. The router will be situated on one side of the house on the bottom level.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1194054018722 ^^Does this extend the range of the wireless? If not, can someone point out a product that does? Thanks for helping me with my noob questions. ![]() EDIT: Also, is the microsoft wireless xbox adapter the only thing that will work for my 360?

That router does include a range extender. There are separate boxes/antennas that extend further, but I'd first try just the router as it should work fine.
As for the Xbox, I believe the only one that works is the Microsoft one, but someone else might chime in here as I'm not 100% sure. |

Well, we can't really know if we don't know what your house is like
![]() What's the square footage? How thick are your walls and what are they made of? How many walls and floors does the signal have to go through? I have a Netgear B/G router that works just fine in my 1100 sq ft home from one end to the next, going through a floor and a couple of walls. Quote:

One tip, scan around and see who nearby has wireless routers and see what channels they are on, switch away from any channel already being used - I had problems with dropping out until I did this. I moved down to Channel 4 making sure that I was one channel away either side.
That cross over trick should work, I've got my Xbox360 wired straight into my router as the router and the main TV are in the same corner of the Living Room where thr cable system TV and Broadband comes into the house. |

for your xbox if you don't want to pay microsoft prices you can buy an wireless ethernet adaptor, which takes ethernet in one port and connects to a wireless network, basically your xbox thinks it's plugged in using a normal network cable.

New question; We got a wireless-N router and it works great but it doesent quite reach to my room. Is it possible to use our old Wireless-G router as a range booster? Thanks for your help everyone!

Yes in that you could run a physical ethernet cable from your N router to the G router and in turn have two wireless networks which would provide the range you want. At work that's how we do it, but only because the ethernet cables already existed and we can customize things like the cafe has no password. |
