Rep Power: 18 ![]() | I need some suggestions on a good router that has a GOOD range. I'm gonna be living in an apartment complex.... and I want to share internet with some folks that are one floor beneath and across the hall and 1 apt to the left from me. basically it's diagonal diagonal... or in another term, the diagonal of a cube. Anyways, would a linksys WRT54G be enough? Or do I need some special crap? - I'm poor, already $80k usd in debt.

| Global Moderator | I have a Netgear RangeMax NEXT router, and i love the range on that sucker. But if you want maximum range for a small price, try a pringles cantenna, they give you monster range at a small price and a bit of DIY. |

| Wireless N is about the only way to get the range you need. Mind you, the laptops don't need an N adapter to take advantage of the range, just the added speed. Another router which is said to give good range, the Netgear RangeMax which has seven internal antennae. Cost is only $80 and shipping from newegg, so it should fit your budget. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833150015

| is awesome! | WRT54 + Speacial firmware = 250% power. Add a narrow angle antenna and your set. Or just go N.

Rep Power: 18 ![]() | Amazon reviews put the netgear rangemax N very low on my list now. How's that Dlink DIR-635 or 655?

Car: Does a bicycle count? Rep Power: 47 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The DIR-635 is an awesome deal especialy in the DKT-410 package they sell here (basicly a 635 and a DWA-140 USB stick in one package for 80€). Sadly I can't be of any realy help since I do own the thing but my router is only ~5m away from my PC and USB isn't really what you want for range. The speed itself is really good though and it comes with plenty of features that will make you happy like integrated traffic shaping, automatic priotization of applications and the likes. Maybe you can get the package for yourself (if it's available in the US) and a range N PCI(e) card for the guy in the other apartment. With that much speed to go around it should work even if the signal strenght might drop below 50%. |
