I had a similar upgrade, from a 2800+, though... It depends on your usage. I tend to have tons of office windows open when working (not that that happens a lot) and even though the amount of ram is the same, stuff switches abit faster and doesn't annoy one as much, IMHO.
I guess that the second core...

I was very pleasntly surprised by the speed Windows was installed, though images/smilies/wink.gif

Who's bashing whom?

And upon further research, the case chassis is aluminum.
Newegg lists the case material as "Chassis: 1.0mm SECC Front door: Aluminum." I mistook the SECC as an acronym for some type of plastic, but it actually means steel (Steel, Electrogalvanized, ColdRolled, Coil).

So I guess it's some amalgamation of steel/aluminum with an aluminum door.

Regardless, after perusing that article I like the tool-less fan and hdd mounts as well as the expandability, I'm trepid about the front mounted radiator, and I'll pass on the acrylic window and the "upgrade to BTX" option.

There's steel and aluminium versions of the case, both have aluminium panels, the difference is in the chassis. They differ mostly in weight, the aluminium versions are just heavy (usually around 8-10kg) while the steel versions weigh even twice that. And i'm sorry for bashing, but i get terribly pissed off when people hate stuff for completely the wrong reasons and make terribly misinformed remarks about them.

I know, that's why I only listed major desktop sockets. Intel goes much longer without f*cking everyone over with some new BS socket design. I only buy AMD for ultra-budget builds, Intel for anything else.

Those basdards on IRC are making fun of me images/smilies/sad.gif It's not like you get to spend 1000€ every day, might as well think a bit about what to get. Unlike rest of you I don't keep every new product in mind, making plans months before deciding to buy, so there's a lot of reading and asking around to be done...

MXM,

Neither did I, I got plenty of input from my fellow geeks who actually read the trade magazines and such.

One thing I forgot to mention, since you got a watercooling case, why not overclock that sucker? I mean, people are overclocking on air just fine, so you should have even more incentive with a watercooled system.

With todays CPUs being such great overclockers, I think it's foolish not to overclock, especially if you have watercooling. I got another half a Ghz out of my C2D (2.4Ghz to 2.9Ghz) and that's just on air. And I could go even higher if I wanted to. And yes I noticed a difference, especially in games such as Colin McRae DiRT, which is a VERY CPU intensive game.

Can I IM you once I get it built and pick your brain about overclocking? I've never done it before and I'm a bit worried about wrecking my system

Blind Io, I've got a similar system to your upgrade, but it's a socket 939 chip. I can help you overclocking a bit if you need, AM2 and 939 are very similar.

Thanks guys. Once I get it built and get it broken in I'll probably start a thread to get some tips.

I love this forum, it's not often you find an online community this size that is as tight-knit and helpful.

i have a 939 chip too. if i wanted to upgrade mine, would it be worth buying a new mobo and RAM, or should i just try to find a 939 processor to fit in the mobo i have now? i don't think i will get much for the processor, ram and mobo together, even though it's an Asus A8n32-SLi board images/smilies/sad.gif
