Default XBOX 360 problem

I have a strange problem with my 360. When you put a DVD game into the console it picks it up as a DVD movie, so rather than booting up a game it goes to the "Please place this DVD in a 360 console" screen. Anything CD based works fine. To get around this the console either has to reset or the tray opened and closed till you get a result this can take between 3 - 25 times. I would think it was the DVD drive that was the problem but when a game is booted it works trouble free, it is just the boot up sequence, and it does not matter what game goes in the machine". Notmally I would not mention this but I mailed MS and gave a complex analyis of the error. This is the PERSONAL e-mail I got back from MS after mailing them.

"Hello Michael,
Thank you for writing Xbox Customer Support!
I apologize for the inconvenience. I understand that when you try to
use any kind of disc in the Xbox 360 console, you receive an error
message saying that: To play this disc, put it in an Xbox 360 console.

Please try the following steps to resolve the issue.

1. Turn the console off, and then turn the console back on.

2. Clean the disc and look for flaws or scratches.

a. Hold disk by the edges without touching the surface with your
fingers.

b. Clean the disc with a soft, clean cloth, lightly wiping from
the center outwards.

c. Do not use solvents or chemicals to clean the disc.

d. After you clean the disc, examine for scratches or defects on
the disc. If you find any defects that were not caused by ordinary wear
and tear, return to retail if the disc is still in warranty.

3. Try three other games, and then try the original game again.

4. Test the disc in a different console if you can.

5. If only one disc is affected, replace disk at retail. "

I mean I ask you.

If it's still covered by warranty, i'd say call them on their local support number. You are more likely to get someone who actually understands your question. State that you've done the steps they sent you in email, and the problem persists.

I had my Xbox die this past weekend, but a quick call to the support line and there was a box on it's way to ship it to a repair center.

hokiethang. still under warrenty. Think the 1yr is up in March, you could say it is still working ish which is why I am not so keen on shipping it off, however I can only imagine the problem is only going to get worse and eventaly not work at all. Stuid question butYou got any kind of idea on the turnaround on a repair service from Europe?

No idea. I'm just now dealing with the US repair services here, and I don't know much about everything works first hand just yet. I shipped mine off on Thursday, and it's due to reach the repair center Monday.

I'd still give the customer service number a call and see what they say, they'll probably have you try some useless troubleshooting, and then they should send you a box to ship it in to have it repaired. When they ask, make sure they know that the problem is intermittent.

When I sent mine in, from calling them to back at my door it was about 2 1/2 weeks. This was before the warranties got extended, so they weren't getting that swamped just yet. I wouldn't doubt if it was around that much time for sending it in.

Call customer support, if there is a way to fix it they will walk you through it otherwise they'll have you send it off to them.

Cheers thx for the advice Gents, I call them after the holidays. Bloody annoying, because as I said after boot up and game detection it works perfectly.

i had the exact same problem about a year ago with mine, and they sent me a new one in 2 days. And 3 days before the halo 3 launch it broke AGAIN.
I've just heard from my cousin that he got the dreaded 3 red lights just 4 days after getting a replacement back from MS. ouch

Yeah Sick they but did butI am almost sure, possitive in face that the 3 year warrenty ain't generosity on the part of MS, it is because tjhey know they have sold a defective product and the 3 yrs only covers the "The Red Ring of Death".

Ok I got in touch with MS and didn't have to phone did it all online, they checked the serial number to make sure it was still under warrenty and have sorted out a shipping order so it is almost ready to go. Looks like my machine is going on "vacation" (wish I was under warranty and fucked). However I just got a e-mail saying my shipping order is sorted out and give me a few links to go to but the UPS site keeps telling me that the info I am asking for ir presently unavailable try again later. Not much of a big deal I hear you say, just something in the e-mail raised a eyebrow. As there is no link working I can only take this for face value but I am sure it can't be right. Any1 who has sent a machine to repair centre help me out here.

To find the closest place to drop off your shipment, copy and paste the
following URL into your Web browser:
http://www.ups.com/content/gb/en/shi...off/index.html

I can only assume that is if you wish to drop it out without mailing, because believe it or not I live in a major city and the nearest UPS is 70miles away. Which is like 280mile round trip.
