Default XP boots up to splash screen then my monitor goes blank

I removed a hard drive from my computer of late and since then it boots up to the XP splash screen then my monitor idles and blanks out. No matter how many times i move the mouse or press keyboard buttons it blanks out

Happened to me once when fiddling with tv out. the refersh rate was hard set to a frequency my monitor didn't support. boy that was a pain in the ass to fix. dunno how i did it though :/

Happened to me as well after I installed a new driver for my audio card... it would take around 20 mins took turn on after the black screen...

My advice is put the disk back in, uninstall (remove) it from the Device manager and then restart the PC without the disk...
