PayPal would be the only method (as it's the only type of account I have) and you don't need an account to use it -- just a credit card. You will need an account though if you want to use your bank account as I do though.

"Where do I sign", I'd like a life membership option too please. I like the "something extra" too and actually getting the FTPs out of the way would be a good idea as the passwords seem to get too well known too quickly causing issues for 95 etc. My twopenneth. May get issues with banning - got to think about that, get someone who subscribes behaving badly and gets banned may want his money back - Mr Litigation here we come. Get a "legal eagle" to look over the agreement.

Example ideas:
1) Money/Monies/Currency/Moolah is non-refundable.
2) Donations are not a cloak of invisibility/invincibility - You have to follow the same rules on the site as everyone else. Do not send monies and expect a special rank/status on the site (Admin, Mod, Arms Dealer, Drug Trafficker).
3) Donations perks are virtual goods.

If it's a donation rather than a subscription then there is no problem. The money has been given with no obligations to receive anything in return.
Anyway I'm in if it isn't silly money. $50 a year sounds OK to me, especially with the weak dollar images/smilies/tongue.gif

I know on some other forums you can pay to give someone ELSE a title (obviously it has to meet forum rules). This way the current system of titles is not really ruined.

I'm very much against any kind of perks. It's nice to give them recognition, but as Jay said, I'd hate to see people who donate feel like they have more rights than others. Ideally it'd be anonymous, but it's not a solution in the reality.

Private forum isn't such a great idea in my mind either. Rennlist did that a while ago, making offtopic accessible only for "paying members", and that's when I stopped visiting it. I'm not against donating, but I hate to be forced to do so, especially since I wasn't that active there, mostly lurking.
So what I'm trying to say is that donations shouldn't be driven by rewards and they shouldn't create a pressure for non-paying people (except moral images/smilies/smile.gif).

Also, what would you do if someone deserves a ban? Don't you think this will bring a lot more complications if someone is banned after donating? I think this should be made very clear, that donations are nothing more than that. You're not "buying" a custom title, access to forums or anything like that (ok, that's basicly what Quiky said in his rule 2).

Hmm, some valid points. I don't want this forum turning into cliques.

I may just go with a generic "Donate" button not tied to the forums and call it at that.

That would be the best idea, IMO.

Maybe we could get proper decals instead of bumper magnets? Or maybe both, why not? For the summer gettogether roadtrip i was thinking of getting easy to remove finalgear and "davos-to-stelvio or bust" decals for all the cars. images/smilies/thumbup.gif

A simple donate button would certainly be a hell of a lot easier from your standpoint. Remember all the talk before the implementation of the reputation feature? Everybody got a good chance to ask questions and sort things out well before it came into effect... and how smoothly has that gone? How easy has it been for you?

I'm not shitting on the rep feature, I'm just saying that the donation system won't just involve little green blobs - It'll involve peoples money. I'm sure a lot of people will expect a little something of their own for the money they gave. It could be something as simple as their own title or custom username but it could be power, influence, protection... I think I made it sound like a Scorsese film but you see what I'm saying. images/smilies/lol.gif

Just to float an idea:

I remember when I ordered a few things from rotten.com and homestarrunner.com and they threw in some cool swag. I got a dozen or so Rotten stickers from them and a key chain and bottle opener from the Chapman brothers. Maybe you could get some FinalGear bumper stickers, buttons, beer coolers etc - you know; cheap crap. And then say something like "first few dozen donations receive free swag!".... Or something like that.

If you throw in a Viperbond Action figure keychain/bottle opener, I'm in. Personally I don't need or want perks I've spent more time here than on any videogame and class at school and I basically pay $250 a day for those. $50 p/year is the least I can do for this place images/smilies/love.gifimages/smilies/love.gifimages/smilies/love.gifimages/smilies/love.gif
