As a result of this thread, I have made a new spoiler section for Top Gear:
http://forums.finalgear.com/top-gear-spoilers/ (just a test thread in there currently) As of right now, you must join a new usergroup in order to view the threads in those forums. However, I'm afraid that newbie users won't realize how to do that and as a result, the threads will get a LOT less attention. So, I'm thinking that by default, all users have those post titles shown to them (in searches and stuff), i.e. exactly how spoilers are done now when they are posted in the generic TG section. However, if you don't want to see the thread titles, you can "opt out" and join a usergroup which denies you access to that forum (like it does by default now). I'm not sure how to accomplish this alternate method (opt out), so there's no guarantee I could even get it to work, but before I put some serious effort into it, I thought I'd ask what people thought. So, whatda think?

Show the threads to all users, with an opt-out option. That will ensure people are aware of the section and that it hopefully gets used as intended.
Probably not the answer you wanted since it's the more difficult one...

I'm no expert on VB, but isn't it possible to make new users member of more than one group by default? In that case the opt-out option (which has my preference) would be a lot easier to implement. Anyway, i vote opt-out.

"Registered Users" have access to the forum, this "opt out" group lacks access -- the user belongs to both. vB shows the posts since one group has access.

No solution yet, however I now know how to make certain areas be excluded from the "new posts" search, so I may just settle for that.

I think it would be a good idea to have a few 'spoiler' sub-forums, like one in Top Gear and Fifth Gear, and one in Entertainment for movies and stuff. Yeah.

Okay, all done.
New forum: http://forums.finalgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=66 If you join the "No Spoilers" usergroup, the "New Posts" link will exclude that forum from the search. It's not the perfect solution, but it's still a good one IMO.

So, instead if you're a member of the group, it changes the "New Posts" link at the top to this: http://forums.finalgear.com/search.p...new&exclude=66 Use that URL.

Ah, I had an old linky bookmarked then, working like a charm with the "New Posts" now.
