Default Make a new area for game threads?

My biggest problem with all the game threads that have been popping up ("The Music Game", the 2nd guess-the-car thread, etc.) is that they are essentially just increase-your-post-count threads. However, it just occurred to me that vB has the ability to make areas of the forum not count towards your overall post count.

So how's this proposal -- I make a new sub-forum under Off-Topic in where posts don't count and in return, you guys can come up with all the "stupid" (IMO) threads you want. A really off-topic of sorts.

Thoughts?

No because that'll increase the focus on 'OT' in this forum and we know that's the last thing this forum needs. I know it won't be your intension but still....

And I don't care about it increasing people's post count. So what if it does? Doesn't seem like an issue atm.

"they are essentially just increase-your-post-count threads"

No quite you are playing a game that is car realted. Whats post count anyway does any1 pay attention to it. Post count is irrelivent you can contribute to the boards if your count is low or high, how does post count matter to any1?

I would be happy for them to be in a seperate thread but I don't really think it matters about post counts.
Either way really as long as I can find them when I'm bored.

I don't like that idea - people occasionally sneak into the Games thread once in a while to post something, and a specific forum for these isn't going to get many posters in there. Not many people here go out of the way to beat the person above them...

Some of the games are kinda lame and boring, but that's a problem with the thread poster and Viper shouldn't really do anything to accommodate them.

I was thinking about that the other day, I think the posts in the game threads should not count as well... it has absolutely zero content and I remember at one point (Hockie's FTP time), idiots were making stupid guesses every 2 seconds just to get their post count up.

I think we should just place a section (maybe a subsection) so it doesn't affect the overall look of the forum...

I don't care if it counts or not for posts but I think creating a specific forum section for the games will make many people stop playing them.

Well I think the poll is rather clear and even more of these kinda threads are popping up, so I'm gonna make an executive decision and make the new area.

Hate it or like it, too bad. images/smilies/tongue.gif

A bit after the fact I guess, but I really didn't see the need to move the game threads. It's not like there are a great many of them (there are what? 5 or 6?) and I never felt they were a distraction to the other threads. This is a forum about cars and car shows, it's not like we're maintaining a scholarly journal or something like that. Just my $.02
