No spell check in FireFox?

Discovered this in another thread... but it appears that my spell checker function is missing. Here is a screeshot:

I'm using firefox 1.5.0.7, and it appears when I use MSIE.

Disable the WYSIWYG editor or right-click -> Spell check this field.

Firefox correctly doesn't see the Javascript WYSIWYG editor as a <textarea>. images/smilies/wink.gif

IE doesn't even have spell check. And if it wasn't for Mozilla you wouldn't even have IE7 with tabbed browsing!

I don't want tabbed browsing, I hate it. I much prefer having the windows open at the bottom.

Oh, dur. Spellcheck wasn't introduced until v2.0. You need to upgrade from 1.5.0.7. images/smilies/wink.gif

Even with 2.0 the Spell check feature does not work with the highest level of control on the board (WYSIWYG). However the medium level works fine.

IE is teh suck

(oh, and I believe it was Apple's Safari browser that started tabbed browsing, Firefox just made it known outside the Mac-geek community.)

Um, Opera had Tabs (according to wikipedia since 1996) WAAAAAAY before Safari (introduced in 2003) even had a single line of code.

(and safari is based on the Khtml library which has powered Konqueror (KDE web browser) for years before Safari existed, also with tab support)

Wow, '96? Opera was blazing the trail then.

I was using Netscape Navigator back then, as was most of the world:

Opera is ten years old already? Wow, time flies... I started using it mainly because of tabbed browsing. Back then, no other browser offered it, and I found it the greatest breakthrough in web browsing since... well, ever. Even today, I think Opera is the best browser around. Firefox is great, but it isn't "there" yet. I use them both, though, because Opera still has compatibility issues with several webpages I visit. Both complement each other nicely, though.

Opera is that old and still sucks ass? Before they went free, who would pay for a browser? That's insane!

Opera has issues but I wouldn't say it sucks ass. It's still my favourite browser and the one I use the most. I agree that Firefox is improving day by day, and FF 2.0 is very good, but there are still things I don't like about it. For instance, since I upgraded to 2.0 I haven't been able to use my favourite theme, and several of the extensions I had installed were broken for a couple of weeks time. There's nothing of that in Opera. I'm still using themes designed for Opera 7 and before. This doesn't mean that FF sucks, only that there's still some room for improvement, which is good.

If I think about it the three programmes on my computer I use the most are all free, Media Player, MSN Messenger and IE6. I happily pay for games and office programmes I will use for a fraction of the time I use the aforementioned but I, like you, would laugh at the idea of paying for them, weird isn't it.
