Removing old topics?

Could this be possible? For example, 24 pages of topics in Top Gear General and 39 pages in General Automotive, oldest posts are 2-2,5 years old. Come on. First 4-5 pages are relevant conversation, the rest ain't.

Erm.. why?

Unless you click them, they don't generate load. And the space isn't the issue at the moment as far as I know.

you don't see the older topics.

And every now and again some n00b comes along and poste something really old so it's nice to be able to find the previous discussions about certain topics.

because there's a lot of good info there......and instead of noobs posting the same stuff over again, they can just search the old topics and find their answers.

he probably wants to start his own forum, and wants it to be bigger than this, but there are to many topics to achieve that images/smilies/lol.gif

I'm not sure on phpbb, but on vBulletin threads automatically get archived after a certain time, they are still searchable and kept, but not shown in the thread list for each section. As it stands, things are working nicely and you don't need to click on the older pages, so its not an issue.

What's with all the negative attitude? How could links to 2 topic pages instead of, say, 8 pages make forum look much nicer?

I'll tell you what's a good idea, if this forum jumps on the reality show bandwagon....every week, we vote someone off the boards. We can watch those nominated battle to see who should stay and who should go..... images/smilies/vampire.gif
