Default Ep Release Sizes

Since it's coming back up again and no one has started the thread yet, here it is.

The issue is this: how big should the released eps be?

-350MB is what we use, and IMO, is quite acceptable. It's not too long to download, and for most users, is fine. With 350MB, you can fit 2 eps on a DVD, but will have blank space wasted (if you don't put anything else on)

-700MB would give a slightly better picture, and AFAIK noticeably better audio. For the purists, it's more rewarding. On the downside, it'll take twice as long to download. With 700MB, only one ep will fit on a DVD, but it leaves less blank space.

I prefer it to stick at 350mb and if possible, reduce it images/smilies/biggrin.gif... I have a 10gb limit a month which I share with my girlfriend images/smilies/sad.gif

We gotta be mindfull of those who dont have unlimited bandwidth/hard disk space so 350MB will have to do.

I cant see noticable diffrence between a 350MB and a 700MB rip so 350 is adequet enough I think.

However, if 700MB rips were ripped by VUK, i'd get em cos I do have fast internet.

Same here.... except that it's with a family of five... so many times we've hit that limit and been slowed to 64kb/s images/smilies/cry.gif

Having to d/l 700MB episodes would really fuck things up. If people are saying there's no discernable difference btn the 350 and 700 MB rips, then why even suggest the 700's?

exactly... things were fine until the thread about VUk came up and then some fuckface got confused and thought VUk was going to re-encode it in 700mb and furthermore, another fuckface comes round and requests for a 400mb rip so he could save 50cents because he wastes 300mb on his dvd every about 2.5months for every season... so people, quit complaining, the system was perfectly fine till the bunch of noobs got here and thought they could be funny and try to make stupid requests that are inconsiderate images/smilies/thumbdown.gif .... so my advice is Quit Complaning, Download your TG/FG, grab a beer and WATCH it (unless you're the guys with 4" thick glasses that can spot the difference between a 300mb, 400mb and 700mb rip

Erm, I don't get this topic.

I'm fine with whatever VUK decides to put out. It's his work and I don't think we have a word in it. It's always easy to request certain things if the only thing you have to do is click on a torrent link.

If you ask for my opinion. Each thread that deals with episode size/format requests should be closed and the posters shot.

I completely agree. If you want higher quality, 450mb more bits aren't going to improve it that much. I'd like high definition video, but I can afford to transfer 1.5GB of data an episode easily. I see no reason to increase the size, as 700mb doesn't improve much. The only time I would be able to see a difference were if it were MUCH larger in size (1.5 - 2.0GB). Otherwise, I won't support any change in size, since Top / Fifth Gear are NOT shot in high definition. So I in effect agree with andy's thoughts, stop complaining, grab a beer and watch.

I also vote for 350mb. Perfectly fine, as hokie also mentioned in the other thread, he watches it with his projector, which is also fine. I assume most of us watch it on the pc/laptop screans, and I really doubt you can spot the picture quality differnece on 15-17-19' (or whatever the size of you computer screen). Even if you could, it is so minor, that its completely unjustified to waste another 350mb of discspace, bandwith, d/l time etc.

Also what Andy said. If you are that unsitisfied with VUK's ripping, go get your 700mb episodes elswhere.

It's perfectly fine the way it is.

edit: About the sound. It's prefectly fine also. It's not some holywood action blockbuster filled with special effects, high speed chases and crashes, explosion etc. It's an automotive show for christ's sake. Engine sounds, sound perfectly clear on my 5.1 Surround system, which of course is not some freakishly expensive audio system, but nevertheless gives a really clean sound for the avarage user (what 90% of us are).

I usually go for the 700 MB gothic rips, but just because I don't have to care about traffic...
I think VUK does a terrific job for the 350 MB limit...

350 is perfect, no reason to change it. And almost every other tv series (45min) long that I download are about the same size. Why should FG/TG be any better quality? And since someone else is releasing the 700mb version I don't see the point of this thread.

I'm sorry but I only see you complaining and attacking people here. Now I wonder who is the "noob". Perhaps you should take some time off the computer like I did (notice it was several days since my last post here).

Frankly I don't care one bit. I wasted my time to help some people out with constructive criticism and apparently someone has a problem with that. Too bad.

Excuse me? I created this thread because certain members took Viper's thread about Vuk off topic. In that thread, Viper said this:

You're right in that probably more people are actually using DVDs rather than CDs these days, so we should think about it.

But that's a subject for another day and another time.
So in order to keep the original thread on its topic, I thought I would do the necessary. I'm not saying I want to change the size, but other people started the discussion and it snowballed from there. I'm sorry for trying to keep threads in order images/smilies/mad.gif

What's with all the hate these days? images/smilies/thumbdown.gif Someone posts about "FG's attack on TG" and the thread turns into a bunch of cursing and flaming to whoever tries to have a discussion. The 5G discussion about the NSX got ugly for no reason as well.

All I've heard lately is whenever someone complains/knocks anything on a 5G show is "If you don't like it, don't watch it, shut up" etc. Well, if you don't like this thread, don't vote, and don't go shooting people.

This forum has lost the comaderie it used to have..I certainly hope it comes back images/smilies/sad.gif

Well, let's say a season is 12 eps max - that means that 12x350mb = 4200MB - therefore a great size for DVDs and of course the 2x350MB is the perfect size for CDs too. Really depends whether you want 2 DVDs per season or one.

tbh - I'll just take what I can get.
