    IRC: No frenchies allowed?

    I take offence!

    I'm not a frenchie, I just happen to live in the place...and I'm only 10km from the Swiss border, so come on...

    Seriously though, why are french IPs banned from the IRC channel, and is there anything that can be done about it? Cause I'd love to spend some time on it, certainly as the F1 season is starting in a couple months...

    Your ISP is blocked because they do not shut down botnets operated on their network. We had several incidents with them in the past where several hundreds bots at a time would slam our network&spam the channels. Because they don't respond to abuse issues, all connections from Wanadoo are banned. My advice is connect through a free VPN or proxy if you really want to connect.

    Mibbit MAY work as well. Not sure how the IRCD bans as Mibbit passes along your real IP even though you're connecting through their servers.

    Mibbit doesn't work, tried before. So it seems a proxy or VPN is the only real option...

    How come other IRC servers don't have this problem though, surely these bots would attack all servers?

    And they have - some networks ban all of France entirely, not just a couple of French ISPs.

    Complain to your ISP if you want that to change, as they're responsible for it. You could (and should) also change ISPs if possible.

    Well that sucks. Doesn't surprise me to be honest, it's what I've come to expect from the french . Yeah, changing ISPs isn't an option though as Orange (Wanadoo) is the only one which covers the outskirts of France, which no one really cares about...
