Is full screen rips possible?

I am most grateful to VUK for ripping the TV shows for us.

However, I was wondering whether it will be possible for him to keep the rips in full screen format rather than have two black spaces at the top and bottom of the screen.

I know that keeping the BBC logo on the rips is not entirely desirable for legal reasons but is the danger of being sued by BBC indeed very real?

i think most bbc shows are in widescreen, thats why your seeing the two black bars? Not totaly sure about this.

Yeah, I would rather have the widescreen format as well.

If you're familiar with avisynth, you can write a script to clip the sides off the video when watching it, while still keeping the original file widescreen.
Maybe some players can do that as well.
Personally I don't mind the black borders and I hate to lose the sides, but to each his own.

It doesn't have a UI (it's script based), but really powerful.

Here's a sample script:

Code:

DirectShowSource("Top Gear - 2004.12.26.avi", fps=25, seek=true, audio=true, video=true)
Crop(68, 0, -68, 0)

Enter the above in notepad, and save as "Top Gear - 2004.12.26.avs" in the same directory as the "Top Gear - 2004.12.26.avi" file.
Then open the .avs file with media player, or any other player you'd like.

But one question though....unless you have got widescreen TV, how does widescreen format look better than fullscreen? images/smilies/wacko.gif

Because it's the full picture, and not cropped in any way.

I think you're all crazy to want 4:3 tbh!

I've actually seen recent Top Gear eps in 4:3 format on local TV and it looks awful. I think the director in charge of each episode gives low priority for composing shots for SDTV. Some may find it annoying (I dont) but if you were to do full screen you'll miss a lot. You might as well get used to anamorphic widescreen broadcasts as it is the future format for TV.

But to get 4:3 you're actually cropping the picture, removing the side information. WS is far more richer, and gives you panoramic view, which is similar to the human eye.

BBC Show their stuff in a semi-widescreen format. Not 16:9 or 4:3. That what I heard.

I think the format now is perfect though. As long as I don't miss action Im happy. images/smilies/smile.gif

I thought the exact reverse to be true:

Full-screen - uncut picture

Widescreen - cropped picture

If they are shot on film 99.9% of the time they are widescreen.

Widescreen is always better. I won't even rent a movie if the store doesn't have it in widescreen (which annoys my girlfriend to no end, but when you watch something originally made for widescreen you are seeing the director's true vision).
