I was the one who created that part of the logo, and I designed after a Ferrari gearbox, so it is in 6th gear. I even used the exact images Bihus posted as references while I was making it.

Don't VWs still have reverse beside first gear ?
My dad's old 240 Volvo also had reverse there.

On the VWs that I remember, I had to push down on the shifter to get into reverse and on the Volvo I had to pull up on a ring around the lever underneath the knob.

In both cases, there is no way one could mistakenly put the transmission in reverse while going forward.

yeah, my family have a VW Polo (Lupo in europe, I think), and we have to push down the shifter in order to get to reverse, and the gears are like that:

Code:
 R-1-3-5
   2-4

No Lupo is smaller than Polo. Lupo is Fiat Seicento size.
