I personally think the quality is fine as it is, and I'm usually not someone that is bothered by it (I still watch tv with rabbit ears).
However (because I'm anally retentive) I was wondering what the knowledgeable people / experts here think about the ogg vobis audio codec: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77314

ogg vorbis is great, but I think aac offers better quality, yes?
and that MPEG-4, I know that's a relatively new video codec, but it's that the name of the codec...like XviD...and the file extension, is that .avi or .mpg?

Well evidently not according to that link (tested @128kbits). (sorry I had posted the wrong link).
However HE-AAC seems to beat it handily at the very low bitrates (64kbits): http://www.rjamorim.com/test/64test/results.html
FYI, VUK seems to encode 44.1Khz mono at 48kbits.

Which one are you referring to?
MPEG-4 is the name of a video encoding method used by several codecs like XVid, DivX and several others.

mpeg-4, like mpeg and mpeg2, is a video compression standard created by the MPEG LA that is the basis for codecs such as divx, xvid, apple quicktime sorenson, microsoft windows media video, realvideo, etc. Because it is just a standard, other people/companies are able to modify them, hence you have differences amongst the codecs and some are better than others for certain applications.
