Default Audi R8 4.2L Supercharged, Faster Than V10 FSI?

The Smoking Tire takes to the track in the baddest R8 yet, Project Raptor by Performance Outfitters and PES Tuning. Host Matt Farah puts the Raptor through its paces at New Jersey Motorsports Park to find out if a supercharger makes for a faster car than a couple of extra cylinders.

Nice review, if a little too short.
Those dyno results are odd. Have they modified anything in the transmission that made the supercharged car have a bigger loss?
Also, a drag race between the stock V8, the supercharger V8 and the V10 would be very interesting. images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

What's odd about the dyno results? Drivetrain losses tend to be around 15%, though this is just large generalization. But if we use 15% here, 469hp divided by 0.85 = 551.76.

Good review by the way.

DUH. Sorry about that. I forgot to compare them in terms of % and instead just compared how much HP each car was losing to the transmission.images/smilies/lol.gif

Actually, for 4WD/AWD vehicles, the drivetrain loss is between 10-25%. For instance, a Subaru WRX STi is rated at 300 HP at the flywheel but throw one on the dyno and it varies between 225-240 HP at the wheels. That's right around the expected loss.

The guy who designed the interior and electronics on this car used to work for the company (AI Design) that did the Blackbird car. So yes, its kind of a blatant ripoff of that car, but this one's supercharged, which earns certain points for me images/smilies/smile.gif

Since the blown car only weighs 30 lbs more than a stock 4.2L R8, I would expect it to smoke the shit out of the V10 car.

And the owner isn't famous, and was a first timer on Bullrun this year.

I know that the V10 engine weights 30kg more than the V8 engine.
But I dunno how much the complete Car weights more.
BTW. This particular R8 weights more than 30lbs more.
With all the electronic stuff it definately is à lot heavier.

Thats probably true. I'd estimate an extra 50-80 lbs of electronics on this car. Either way, it should be a damn good run.

Only 5 psi of boost is pretty conservative though, but I guess they don't want to blow the expensive R8 engine.

Yes, it's very similar (one might even go so far as to say a blatant ripoff) of the Blackbird R8.

As for the "infrasonic pulse generator" on the blackbird car, yes, I know exactly what it does, and I'm going to share it with you:

NOTHING.

It's a total fake. It's literally just a spray painted black box with some neon green liquid running through it. I helped Andre build that thing..... It's all in the marketing, and being able to use big enough words when you're talking about it that no one will question it. Fantastic hoax though, still has the internet buzzing about it.
