It's pretty much the same as we've read everywhere.
1) Not much character: it's a sporty-ish-car build by an appliance company 2) Cheap interior materials compared to more expensive cars, but more expensive cars are more expensive. 3) Smaller engine is less powerful and not as fast as larger more powerful engine. Nothing very surprising.

I don't know about that. Jalopnik really liked the 2.0 model, as have many other journalists, but I thought it drove like crap out of the box. It would require a few grand in upgrades to make it a sports car...

Now I'm disappointed a bit. I was really thinking I would like the car for getting around town, and maybe on the track once in a while (although, to be honest, I wouldn't get the Track Pack). Other cars I've considered were the WRX, the Mazdaspeed 3 and the Cobalt SS.
So now I'm all confused again ![]() Steve |

Maybe the V6 would be better?

Well done. The plugging was good. The honesty and telling of the quirk's of the vehicle fantastic. Excellent review.
Now considering that it is slow how well does it handle at a track? Any chance of footage on a track? |

I have to ask, was this originally a G419 shoot? It really sounded like the part where you said "the smoking tie" was dubbed over. Just curious.

1) yes we shot this before we had the new name of the show, hence the (intentionally) awful overdub.
2) No, I'm not wasting precious race track time with this car. It's not just because it doesn't go fast, but because it just doesn't drive well. It may be rear wheel drive and have nice brakes, but it's just not a sports car in stock trim. If I want to drive a slow-ish but fun car on a track, I'm driving a Miata all day long. On that note, a Miata is more fun, more economical, nearly as practical (less the back seat) and cheaper than the Genesis coupe. 3) The WRX or Mazdaspeed 3 are your 2 best bets. I love the Mazda personally, but this year's upgrades on the 'rex really make it a contender. |

I agree about the WRX, its a better buy over the STI even with the HP bump and whatnot. And hopefully the Genesis will be a bit better on the next redesign. That is, if it sells well enough to warrant a second gen and barring any subsequent model bloat manufacturers like to give cars these days...

I drove the 2.0 turbo yesterday and I liked it. I did notice engine issue both upshifting and downshifting, but honestly I just thought it was my fault lol it just feels like the gas pedal is very touchy when upshifting and the engine breaking is a little unnerving if you are counting on it. Its not very fast but the ride is very nice, not to firm and not to soft.
As for the engine noise, I also liked that. not too noisy but it lets you know its there. The seat was nice as well and I had plenty of room (I am 6'2") I drove it both city and highway and I was impressed. 2 things tho, on the highway even in 6th gear the revs are too high. Also quite noticeably there is no power at all without the turbo therefore you constantly find yourself shifting where in other cars you would get away with the selected gear. Either way, Love the looks, love the feel and the rest can be easily cured with some light mods. just wish I had the money for one. p.s.: Thanks Joy for letting me drive
