I'm curious to see if the Fusion has much "sport" in it. On paper it's a pretty close match, but we all know that the Legacy would own it. Perhaps this would put shame into the higher-ups at Ford for trying to pass this off as a "sport" sedan. Then, maybe we would see an SVT version with ecoboost sooner than the next model change??

![]() EDIT: Just did a bit more reading, and it appears the Fusion GT won't be out later this year/early next year, as it's been delayed until the next gen Fusion comes in 2012. Last edited by racingfan1; July 27th, 2009 at 5:13 PM. |

I haven't seen too much on the Sport yet, so i can't say it's a dissapointment. I am skeptical though and would love to see it against a Legacy GT. Not directly, but the performance of the Legacy seems to be this vehicles (sport) competion. I mean why call a vehicle sport . I like the new Fusion, all three engines, awd, and paddle shifters (only for the sport), exterior, and interior. What i don't like is this name(sport). Comes across to me as a marketing tool. Like bait for fishin, and we're the fish. I bet the vehicle is nice, but to call it sport, there better some subtance (like sub 6 seconds to 60). If it can achieve that than fine good name. But what i would hate is if this thing starts sellin good (sport model only), than Ford wouldn't have to bring SVT/GT Fusion all that soon.
P.S. My lease is up on 08 Fusion in fall of 2010 and sport sedan is what i'm lookin for...I hope the gt/svt is out by then, but if this is their sport sedan(sport) than i won't be able to support the home team... |

the 3.0 v6 puts out 250 hp on E 85 and wheighs 150 or so lbs less then the comparable 3.5. You can get a sport tuned suspension and 18 wheels with performance tires and the paddle shifters.....to me that would be more sporty than the 3.5l "sport". the only difference i can see would be the gearing. but how much of a difference???? not enough to call it sport. I love the new Fusion, I just hate that Ford is marketing this when they could have a real sport Fusion if they wanted to. Isn't the Fusion Ford's nascar??how sad that you haven't had a real "sport" version yet for this car.

The Subaru has a much better AWD system (longitudinal engine vs the Ford's transverse). I would favor the Subaru, though the Mazda 6 chassis which the Fusion is based on is pretty good.

I'll admit to agreeing with most of Ford's product decisions as of late, but the Legacy GT will definitely smoke the Fusion Sport. The Legacy GT is one of the great sleepers of the modern age. Just a few hundred pounds more than an STI, and with an equally capable engine, combined with a body no one will look twice at, and you've got a very competitive Cannonball car.
