Call me biased, but I think the '99-00 Cougar would fit. It was the only FWD version of a RWD lineage. It got good reviews (JC liked it). Styling, while love or hate, was totally different when introduced in '98 and many manufacturers lift from it even today (doesn't look dated either). And it didn't sell that great.

Exactly the reason it would be looked back upon. Didn't quite belong. Some say Ford should've just called it the next Probe but they wanted to bring in a younger buyer to the L/M brand. Plus compete with the rising import tuner crowd of sporty coupes (Eclipse specifically).
The reason it was canceled was because it was built on a platform (Mondeo/Contour) that was being discontinued anyway and they wanted to wring 4 more years out of it. |

Sorry but the Cougar has been going down hill since '71. The fact they made a FWD version just means they gave up. The Ford Taurus based Continental was the only FWD car in its line, it isn't considered a classic but rather an insult and abomination.
This is a classic Cougar.

It definately has potential. Although I always preferred the GTS.
Nice prediction!

As a fellow Cougar owner (of '01 updated version with the improved interior) I have to say...
"No" on the "future classic" status. I love it, don't get me wrong...I think it's a great car...but not classic by any means.

G35's and 350Z's are going to have to wait a while until classic status sets in.
Also, just because a car is "different" doesn't mean that it'll be collectible.

I would say production numbers or rarity don't matter as much as desire, sure the saab 9x is fast and everything but your average guy doesn't care about it, so why in 20 years would he want one. If you get something like a clean stock supra, or last gen rx-7 things that lots of people who were teenagers 10 years ago wanted, it will sell for good numbers once there are few stockers left. |

I'd like to disagree, but I can't.

And yeah, clean Supras are badass. Although, if I got my hands on one, I don't think I can resist tuning it.
