Default Racing Sims

What do you think about having an episode revolving around racing simulators? I believe that many of us, the fans and supporters of Garage 419, are also avid fans of racing games, be it Gran Turismo, Burnout Paradise, or even Mariokart. Massively Multiplayer Online Racing Games could also be considered. For example, Project Torque is one of the better Free to Play MMORGs I've had the pleasure to play. I'm sure that you play racing games, right? If not, how about some friends with a Logitech G25 steering wheel?

Just throwing this out there-- It's 1:00 AM, I just finished studying for testing, and I had this madcap epiphany. images/smilies/dry.gif

Maybe compare Gran Turismo and Forza? There are plenty of fanboys for each out there but it would be interesting to see a side-by-side comparisson by someone that actually knows something about cars.

If you don't include LFS, I'm never watching the show again!

Definitely Live for Speed, especially since this site supports it. (You can post your LFS name into your info)

I hate video games, even very good racing sim's. I play them for 15 minutes and then completely lose interest, and I really hate watching other people play them. If someone else wants to do a review, I'd consider running it.

Default here's my review:

just went to Dave and Buster's last weekend. There you can drink beer and play arcade games. I don't drink, but i did play some games. All the driving ones, a couple shooting games, and a horse game. My daughters into horses and chit, so i had to play images/smilies/wacko.gif There was one true Ferrari simulater with a 6sp trans, clutch and all. A few nascar simulaters and a need for speed one. The best one, though, was Daytona USA. It was old, the same one i played 15 years ago. Not 100 % accurate, but fun as hell. As far as consoles games, Gran Turismo taught me how to take high speed corners in real life. I didn't care for the newest one for PS3, but it's still very realistic.

Default don't forget.............

GTA4. that online play is funner than chit. As far as a simulator..I highly recomend this game. Especially for those looking to haul ass through heavily populated parks while shooting uzis and transporting hoes to back alleys. Very realistic images/smilies/lol.gif

rFactor

Everything you could ever want from a simulator. And the soon to be released rFactor2. All rFactor users are eagerly awaiting this one.

^Nice month bump. images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I still fail to see the appeal of rfactor. The graphics seem way behind the current sims like LFS, so the only redeeming feature is the car and track list.

LFS is definitely right up there as far as sims go, and with the VW Scirocco and a new tyre physics model in the pipeline it will just get better.

Yes, the graphics may be better on LFS. RFactor is now getting old (4 years old I think), thus the less than perfect graphics, but it is still the industry leader. Now add to that the upcoming improvements in rFactor2 and presto, it will be miles ahead of the competition.

The biggest problem with rFactor remains the force feedback. It's OK with the RealFeel, but it's still light years behind what GTR2 can manange. It's the only reason I play GTR2 over rFactor.

Great idea for the show though, I'd love to see some sims...

I just got an idea, I'm gonna go to Dave and Busters and play video games and get progressively more wasted and find out how bad my lap times get when I'm bombed.

From my personal experience experiments I can predict it will look like this:

Sounds like a good laugh. Would enjoy seeing that, although you can see the effects of alcohol on driving most nights on XBL on Forza 2.

Its too late now Matt. lol. It would be great to see Matt racing in GT5 or forza or other racing sims. If that episode wont make it to the series, at least put it in the bloopers section. lol. more matt is never too much.
