Bah, some creative welding and a rollcage and you'll be ready to go, Death Race style.

I agree, if anything, the spirit of this event is to use the most unsuitable car possible. just put in the rollcage and lay fibreglass matting over it, Voilá, instant car

Add a roll cage to the driver and passenger compartment and you could have yourself a sheet metal El Camolvo.

the lack of a roof shouldn't be a problem, I've seen plenty of chopped cars in LeMons races thanks to the massive lists Jalopnik puts up after every race. Supras, Saturn SL1's, RX7's etc, the mandatory full roll cage solves that problem. The doors may be an issue though. I don't know the exact race rules... The V8-powered Volvo 244 I saw a few times is my favorite so far though.

It seems we have a winner for a car. My teammate Chris just purchased us a 1965 Mercury Marauder 2 door fastback with a 390 big block in it for the lowly sum of $500.... it's not pretty, but with a tune up should be able to make the factory advertised 335 hp.

That means you have precisely 0$ to make it raceworthy? Can you pull it off? (If I recall correctly, sponsorship isn't allowed.

sponsorship is allowed, as long as the sponsorship money doesn't go into the car. fuel, tires, hotels, travel, etc, can all be covered by sponsorship. Also, anything we can strip and sell out of the interior, we can put back into the car. Tires, brakes, and safety equipment are all exempt from the rule too. Since the interior is pretty good, and the dash is pretty good, we should be able to get at least a couple hundred out of it.

That's gross horsepower. Your net horsepower will be lower.
