I'm breaking my own "Don't compare US to UK" rule here.

After watching this episode, UK 19x01 leaves quite a bit to be desired, IMO.

In other news, I wonder if Tanner has a sense of direction. ;)

Here we go with as we watch thoughts...

"omg intentional fumble..." can we get rid of everyone besides Tanner already?

End of challenge one... I don't hate Adam and Rutledge so far... this feels weird

Spring break in what was probably September feels super lame... donkey pulled van, worse

Adam's effort was to blow up the car in the ocean? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Please god bring back the effort they put in to the Alaska episode... everything else has been rubbish

UK vs US awful

US vs US Alaska episode - decentish

Just the Dragon's Den section demolishes this episode by itself

I give it a 6, too much fooling around and destroying cars in these challenges. Yeah, the Alaska episode was one of the great road trips they've done, but it seems their emphasis is on buying beaters and doing a demolition derby with them.

For me its not Top Gear without a review of a car and the Stig running it around the test track.

For those missing the more traditional elements of the show, Rutledge explained that while they haven't had as many in-studio segments as challenges this season, he and the guys haven't forgotten about that part of Top Gear. "We kind of didn't have time for the studio," he said. "We love to do the studio, we all love to do the Stig laps. For me, I love the studio the most because we get to really connect with the fans. It's the best time to do that." (source)

If they get back to that, I'd want them to do a filming schedule similar to the mothership -- tape at the studio a few days before the episode is to air -- instead of doing an entire block of studio segments in one week, and possibly for a mish-mash of episodes.

And no one's going anywhere. As far as I'm concerned now, if you replace one, you need to replace them all.

solid 8. this was a riot lol.

couple minuses(pollution, donkey) but a blast nonetheless.

The idea was there, put the execution was poor. The pinata challenge was actually a pretty good idea, until the van was "broken". I wanted to see the damage, not just hear "Oh, by the way, you broke my car." I couldn't stop laughing at Adam's "I want some candy!"

Again, Adam blowing something up. I thought that turning that Caddy into an actual boat was spot on, and could have gone great. But no, Adam must blow something up.

I gave it a 7. Just because it's still a better love story than Twilight. :p

Overall, I liked it. There was just some "bad continuity" stuff going on - like how they were supposed to be "lost" and then all of a sudden, a challenge, but I attribute that to bad writing. The presenters themselves were in top form.

As much as I like the cheap-car challenges, the excessive use in TGUS is starting to get a little old...

Nevertheless, it was an entertaining episode.
Had some good laughs. Adam in the pi?ata challange had me on the floor.

I have to deduct points for the Cadillac "party barge". Predictable and not really amusing. I wanted a REALLY big boom! :p

7/10

For someone who hates repeats, I have to rewatch this. I love Mexico as a Vacation spot, I loved the humor, we need more episodes like this to watch. Keep em come'n and I doubt Top Gear America will get canceled like Australia.

7. It was okay, watchable, and about average. Tanner's food fight brought it up a few notches, as did the airborne talon.

The best part is how the UK show is going to be hand-wringing over the idea of entering Mexico, whereas the US team was "eh, whatever".

Okay: mostly on a par with James' Bentley Rally; definitely better than Clarkson's P45.
Some slight recycles: when you saw the mariachi band, who here thought "brass band in four-dour track day cars"? And didn't the parasailing Eagle remind you a bit of (a) Adam's abortive Pegasus 1 and (b) James' caravan airship?

Take 3 old cars and figure out a creative new way to destroy them. It's getting kind of old and worn out. According to the preview next weeks episode will for the most part be the same thing.

Agreed. I'm close to giving up on this show because I can only watch these guys pretend to destroy cars so many times. It's all right for a scripted reality show on basic cable, but it's not Top Gear. I don't mean it doesn't have the quality of the original, I just mean it isn't about cars anymore.

Case in point: The episode was about the cars they had in college, but they barely mentioned them while reminiscing... they talked more about grades and dorms. It could have been a nice homage to cars and what they mean to a person out on their own for the first time in their life, but instead they just pretended to get lost and destroyed them.

It seems the show is being targeted toward people who like Jackass-style destruction more than cars. Hopefully it swings the other way soon.

I get the feeling the producers have found a cheap way to make the show without pissing off too many sponsors. And the "men behaving badly with cars" theme is getting popular judging by the copycat shows out there. Just look at Hod Rod TV's Roadkill on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL12C0C916CECEA3BC&feature=view_all

uh...English is not my mother tongue, so i'd like to ask where can i get the latest subtitles ? thanks

+1

I liked the idea of the 'donkey-powered Bus'. The background music was nice IMO and the Race to the Casino was quite funny. But for the rest I agree, this isn't real TG style anymore.

The episode was ok until they arrived at their destination and started destroying their cars.

I wish they would have focused more on the trip itself instead of the challenges. This had the potential to be a great episode

I'm not buying Rutledge's excuse that the Bus's engine case "broke", it wasn't hit that hard. There wasn't much damage to the back of the Bus. As an aircooled VW fan, it was sad seeing it cut up like that.

The Bus was definitely the best car of the three :D
