Cor, bugger a rating system, the episode was fun and entertaining.

..always a fan of a cheap car challenge, though I don't think they've topped the early non-Porsche challenge or the cheap supercars.

That German ADAC test truck was amazing. So TG had 3 cars that had valid UK mechanical warrants / rego-tax-whatever.. but two of the three were too dangerous to be parked, let alone driven in Germany? Yikes.

Awesome ep. Loved seeing the Merc though shame James bought such a banger (at least he didn't pay too much). His Porsche review was cracking - was that really him power sliding? If so, so much for Capt'n Slow.

Strange that they brought RHD cars over to Germany... I would have thought it would have been easier and cheaper to get the Merc and BMW in their homeland. Still, bloody funny stuff.

SIARPC was a tad weird... I only know that guy from the movie The Queen. Was kinda hoping he'd turn into a massive carnut but they didn't even talk about his cars... can only guess he drives a Prius or catches the bus like a giant socialist weasel. Pretty lame.

News was laugh out loud stuff. Top stuff... 8.5/10.

So how many of you would pick the 2.3-16 over the M3? I was looking on eBay for one in decent condition because I need a new DD. I personally like it because it's a lot more rare than the E36 M3 and having a Benz with a manual would be interesting ;)

Count me in. Granted, I own a W201 myself (albeit a 2.5D, kinda at the opposite end of the W201 sportiness scale, but still a cool car) but they have such a tidy, classic shape, typical 80s German, not overtly frilly in the design, but simple and well proportioned. E36s are a nice enough car of course but they're a dime a dozen; the Mercs are much rarer (especially in Australia) and already a bonefide classic. Personally I'd love an Evo II but will probably end up with a nice 2.6 with a kit on it.

Solid 8. I was almost tempted to give it a 9. And I gave the first episode a 6, probably my worst rating ever for a TopGear epidode, so that's quite an improvement.

Only weak segment to me was the SIARPC.

anyone watched fifth gear lately?
I'm asking because there's a few people doing nothing but over analysing top gear (scripted or natural etc etc) and yet Top Gear comes out on top simply because it rocks, Jeremy is a clow (especially him coming out of the car after being driven around the track by German Stig and his helmet (as in the last episode) makes him look comical.
James is getting loose and he's great and hamster should not change, his comments are just spot on at the moment.

SIARPC was a downer though :-/ within a second of the guy coming on I knew I wasn't interested so i think Jeremies intro probably had something to do with that.

All this mentioning of Atlantian and the Mercs box. Someone care to explain?

He was constantly on about the 'dogleg' transmission in his Merc (I think it was a Merc) , meaning a box were reverse is above first gear.

Wich hell did he die in again?

on topic, I gave it only a 6....... can't put my finger on it, seemd like the challenge never got going, and whats up with that 'economy run' they didn't show? I understand its not very intresting to actualy shoot, but atleast show it briefly instead of just coming up with it at the scoreboard......

A good solid episode, yes there were a few spots where it got a little "overacted" but really enjoyable for the most part, with lots of LOL moments for me. The putting up the Porsche top in the "rain" was especially amusing because several weeks ago there was someone here who caused a traffic jam on one of our bridges because it started raining and they had to stop, blocking traffic, to put the top on their Porsche. Boy, did that driver get raked over the coals in the comments section on the local newspaper site.

Challenge would've needed that extra bit of polishing, the end was indeed meh. Otherwise fine, but not excellent.

What has happened to James this season? Whatever it is, I like it.

So somebody else noticed this too.

Was a good episode. I had put the standards high for this one as the episode sounded damn good before airing. First episode surprised me positively, this episode was pretty much what i expected. Challenge could have been better thought as it had lots and lots of potential. Better than the first episode that i gave 7.

8/10

I'm curious about German Stig; namely why he didn't appear more stereotypically German. I wonder if it's because the driver actually was German and objected to wearing lederhosen over the suit or something. Although budget and other constraints seem more likely.

I doubt it was budget constraints if they can afford to hire a band to sit in the back of three old saloons while they drive up and down. I like to think it was a gentle nod towards all those predicting tons of overplayed German jokes from the challenge. I mean, I was preparing myself for leiderhosen and decorative beer steins when the door slid up, yet he looked normal at first; until his mullet was revealed. Nice and subtle, very unlike the Stigs of the past.

They are letting May run loose.

His persona was scripted anyway. Honestly I think he is the one I would most enjoy talking to over a beer. My treat, mate.

I still wonder how they found a Bavarian brass band in East Germany.
That's not funny. See, I have this flip-chart which clearly shows there are no Bavarians in East Germany.

The Germany ADAC tests are known to be tough. Go there with a year old car and they will tell you it's a minger.

The German Stig was rather disappointing. It was the segment I was most exited about and been disapointed. But they played the Lederhosen-Joke with the Brass-Band, but maybe a towel on the shoulder would do it. Altough they played the joke earlier as well, in the episode were they were facing the Germans.

My favourite part of the episode was that they translated "Scheisse" with "o bother". I think even the most Brits would know, that that isn't quite the exact translation...

the GPS claimed 121mph or 54.1m/s. He needed 25 frames for three sets of white lines, which should be 6m white and 12m clear each. At 25fps That's 54m/s.

So much for the stereotypes :lmao:

8/10 episode.

Way better than last week episode.

I just wonder: whats the porpouse of the tape on the headlights of the challenge cars? i really dont know.

They are right-hand drive, so they are meant to drive on the wrong side of the road. When you drive on the right side of the road with them they would blind the oncoming traffic. Same thing applies when you drive a LHD car on the wrong side of the road in Britain.

i really think the challenge run nevr happened, they just needed a way to justify the score being closer for the shock value. IMO
