2007 Canadian Grand Prix

If he had broken his leg, the BMW would have confirmed it by now.

Theres people in the media complaining that they didnt see the safety car near the pits when the Red Light was on, but still, the rule says if the Red Light is on then you stop at Pit Exit. Kubica stopped, and Massa and Fisi drove right around him. Therefore, they deserved to be DQ.

Agreed, it's the same in real life. If you see a red light at an intersection you don't just plough through if no cars are crossing. Rules are rules, regardless of how stupid they might be at the time.

What an amazing race! Fantastic to see Hamilton win this and I think we can expect his confidence to just keep growing from now. Make no mistake, he's definitely a fully fledged title contender - and the way he's been driving its not inconceivable that he may just win it! Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

Alonso appeared totally rattled today, but he surely didn't need to be. He certainly seemed to believe that the race would be won at the first corner and went for it in the same way he did as Spain. Lucky not to take off Hamilton or Heidfeld there. After that he made several other mistakes there losing places to Massa, Raikkonen and ultimately Sato. Alonso does seem to crack when he feels he's under pressure. We saw that at Canada in 2005 when he was stuck behind Fisichella. Once through, he was so upset that he hit the wall and retired the car. This race saw shades of that. It'll be made worse for him by Hamilton's victory, and he now has a lot of work to do.

Massa, well he had the upper hand over Raikkonen again, who just isn't firing this season. Judging by his performances this season, Ferrari have bought a lemon and it makes me wonder just what could've been achieved in the 2005-6 McLarens if Michael Schumacher was at the wheel. On his day, Raikkonen is peerless, but otherwise he's massively overrated in my opinion.

Kubica's crash, horrifying to watch but glad to see that he's err..lived. Don't know whether he has a broken leg or not, latest reports suggests not.

Oh, and a piss poor effort by Channel 10 for not showing the press conference - one of the few times I was actually looking forward to one.

The Hospital du Sacre-Coeur has released a statement.

A statement from the Hospital du Sacre-Coeur in Montreal, where BMW Sauber pilot Robert Kubica has been admitted, has confirmed that the Pole is not in any serious danger following his terrifying accident in Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.

The statement read: "Mr Kubica has undergone all the necessary medical examinations and we don't foresee any further treatment will be required following the accident. He is suffering from a light trauma to his brain as well as a sprain on his left ankle.

"His condition is therefore judged to be stable and we don't have any fear for his life. Mr Kubica will remain in hospital and his state of health will be re-evaluated tomorrow morning."

The 22-year-old suffered the accident on lap 27 of the race, with Kubica's car plunging head first into a concrete wall after colliding with the Toyota of Jarno Trulli.

The BMW Sauber then barrel rolled and shed its wheels before coming to a rest on its side on the left-hand side of the entrance into the final hairpin at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Edit: The reason why Davidson pitted and his team weren't ready is because he hit a Beaver coming down the back straight and needed the car to be checked. If this hadnt have happened, then theres a chance we could have seen 2 Super Aguri's in the Top 8, and Davidson challenging Wurz for the podium.

Kubica sustained just a sprained ankle

Robert Kubica will be released from hospital on Monday morning, having sustained just a sprained ankle and a light concussion in his violent crash today, his doctors confirmed.

The Polish driver crashed heavily on lap 27 of the Canadian Grand Prix, and was airlifted to the Sacre-Couer hospital in Montreal.

But despite widespread reports claiming that he has a broken leg, the hospital said Kubica has sustained minor injuries and confirmed he will be released after a precautionary overnight observation.

"Following the violent accident during today's Canadian GP, Robert Kubica was transferred by helicopter to Sacre-Couer hospital in Montreal," the hospital said in a statement originally issued in French.

"When he arrived at the emergency care unit Kubica was placed in the hands of Dr Ronald Denis, chief medical officer of the Canadian Grand Prix, and also head of the surgical department and trauma department at the hospital.

"Mr Kubica has been through all the necessary medical checks and there do not appear to be any serious consequences as a result of the accident.

"He is suffering from light concussion, as well as a sprained right ankle. He is in a stable condition and his life is not considered to be in danger.

"He will remain in hospital overnight for observation and his condition will be checked again tomorrow morning."

^ Hmmm... Did you see that we already had the statement posted 2 posts back??

Phew, I was down at Portland and got a voice mail from Gatecrasher that Kubcia had crashed at the casino hairpin and wasn't moving. Very tense time for all the F1 fans down there when they overheard me say "Shit, Kubica crashed and isn't moving" to my dad. Good to hear that he's not horribly injured, that was a nasty crash.

I wouldnt be suprised if next year theres a debris fence between the grandstand and hairpin incase something happens again. He was 1 foot away from launching into the oncoming traffic.

I love the Street Fighter graphics :D

Sato was the driver of the day for me.

Wow what a race!

I'm not sure If I want that sorta drama every race but some of it was interesting. I held my breath when Kubica rolled over since it looked very serious at the time especially since he wasn't moving. Even if he escaped with a broken leg it'd be amazing but it seems that it was just a sprained ankle which is even more incredible. Luckily he had the HANS and God looking out for him otherwise it would be a sad day in F1.

On a happier note, it was great to say Hamilton win. However, I'd rather see him win in a more legit race where more of the contenders were involved. Don't get me wrong a win is a win and he could have easily got caught up in the drama but didn't so he deserves credit.

I couldn't believe that Massa and Fissi got black flaged. Although the rule is stupid, I mean they're not rookies, they should have known that! Red means stop and green means go that's universal. It didn't help that Kimi didn't have a great performance today either which I'm hoping was because of that piece of carbon fiber lodged in his front wing after the horrendous Kubica accident.

Was also quite funny when Alonso got passed my Sato. Even if SA never score another point this season, they can still call it a successful one lol for passing the world champion.

Edit: Oh and one more thing. The coverage on FOX was shit. There was no pre or post race interviews. The whole race they were explaining the most trivial things and it was annoying. I can't wait for the coverage to get back on SPEED.

He had that race locked up. I believe that there was nothing Massa, Raikkonen or Alonso could do about it. Full credit to Hamilton, and Super Aguri. I was pissed to see Sato pass Alonso but I can still appreciate the scale of the achievement.

Ron Dennis implied in an interview with F1Racing a month back that his cars would be unlikely to be racing SA, and hence they weren't interested in the customer car controversy. Maybe he'll be on the phone to the lawyers soon! :p

Why is the rule stupid? When the Safety Car is on Pit Straight with all cars behind it, then Pit Lane exit closes so that you dont have cars coming out into a slow moving field of cars.

Its not a stupid rule!!

Kubica stopped at the red light, Massa and Fisi should have too, but didnt, so they deserved to be DQ.

Quite clear from this picture how poor old Kubica broke his leg. This year's regulations supposedly calls for a much stronger safety cell but you could see in the picture that the front section has clearly torn off leaving his feet exposed.

Some more high res pics for anyone who cares to see it:

yeah, but honestly even though they do test safety like crazy....you just cant forecast such a unique crash like that. car held up very well i think. if that was a few years back he'd of had more than a broken leg for sure.

perhaps without the hans device he may well of had his neck snapped when he went head first into the wall

Anyone know where I can watch the post race press conference?

alonso vs sato

fight!

Horrible crash for Kubica indeed... the crash was bad becase he hit the STR or Red Bull that was not behind the wall properly. You can clearly see it in the footage. He hits the tire of the car and it makes the BMW fly even further. Crashing directly into a concrete wall at 300kmh... lucky guy. It was horrible to see he was not moving. Hope he is for ok in time for next race. Kubicas crash reminded me of the crash H?kkinen had in Adelaide in 95 was it? All 4 tyres off the tarmac... not a chance to brake...

I just love modern F1. There is very little technical malfunctions nowdays... unlike 10 years ago half of the cars don't suffer engine failure after 30 or 40 laps. :) Maby only 3~4 cars per race loose the race because of technical difficulties. That's the way it should be. And I think there is more racing today than ever before. Sure, McLaren is superior and Ferrari right there close to McLaren but I think it gets super competitive after these two teams. Only Spyker is really really slow compared to the rest.

I hate to say it but I was right. Ferrari is lost. Not only Kimi, the whole team. Why did they calle both their drivers in at the same time? That was clearly a mistake. Ferrari and their Tifosi have to accept that Schumi has retired and Schumi himself has to let the team do their job with the drivers they have. Stay off the paddok FFS. It is clearly distracting the team... thats what I think.

McLaren was so strong this race I won't be surprized if they win at Indy too. Nobody had any chance at challenging Hamiton and after Alonso did his Stop & Go he was literally flying past the competition. Alonso had trouble at the end though. Still a very gutsy move from Sato. :)

I think this was the most expensive race in a long time. 10 cars totalled... very expensive indeed. :D

Kubice was lucky he didin't get seriously injured but a crash like that prooves that no matter how safe the public thinks F1 is, it still is very dangerous indeed. Racing at 300kmh is never "safe"... unless you drive banked ovals. :tease: hehehehehehe

PS. Goddammit I hate typing on a laptop. :| Typo mania.
