Ownership Verified: 2014 Porsche Panamera Turbo S

Whoops, didn't look at its tailpipes or the badging... :D Which is a good thing, meaning it's a relatively stealthy car.

Also, straight line speed is surely nice but I'd rather have a car that handles better than one that is faster in a straight line.

Of course! As long as you prefer the 996.1 to the 996.2, that is. Oh, and you'd also need to at least tolerate the Aerokit/GT3 rear wing.

Dude tolerate? I live for the Aerokit on the 996.1.

FinalGear - properly derailing PYC threads since ever...

some day I'll own a 996 or 997.. or 993 or 964.. or 70s or 80s 911.. or cayman 987 or 981

honestly, I could see getting a 996 or 997 and a 987.

But this 970.2 is my perfect primary car right now.

I think these look better by the day.

I don't, the roofline and DLO treatment in the rear are horrendous. The second generation improved on both accounts massively.

Anyway congrats @rootrider for getting a car that looks great on the inside and is (probably - never had a chance to drive one) a blast to drive. Both are solid reasons to overlook stylistic shortcomings on the exterior.

Ironic for someone named after a vehicle that can only run on rails :p

What I can't get while riding a tram I need to compensate while driving a car. :p

And yeah, those old Czechoslovakian ČKD Praha KT4 trams do have quite decent acceleration for trams. But now I'm just derailing a thread (pun intended), again.

my wife participated in a skills day with the Panamera, and then we both took some turns at the autocross-style portion.

track time on Saturday. The car is really fast.. but while the heavier weight isn't felt in the handling, the brakes still got too hot in the heavy braking zones. I had to back off earlier in those areas, but otherwise the car was great.

yup.. air springs and adaptive dampers. From the factory, the car can be raised up almost an inch from the 'comfort' and 'sport' settings, and can be lowered down about an inch in the 'sport plus' setting.

It's hard to tell, but the car has over 6.5" of clearance at its highest, and is around 4.5" at its lowest.

The feeling of the car changes drastically. It feels like I'm driving two different cars, between comfort and sport plus. Obviously plenty of other things change.. throttle mappings, shift points and holding gears, dynamic sway bars, awd and traction control/stability control, electronically controlled mechanical rear LSD, etc.

Coming from an autocross event where I'm in sport plus the whole time, I switched it back to comfort for the drive home and it freaked me out. I had to put in sport for a while to slow the transition. The car was just too different and it threw me off.

went on a drive on Saturday with some friends and their Boxster Spyder and Shelby GT350.

it's been winter.. the car has been dirty, etc. I had to replace a fuel pump a couple of months ago (under the emissions warranty). Otherwise, it's just business as usual.

I'm at around 36k miles now. So I have put about 11k miles on the car since the start of June.

I'm hoping to pick up an e46 330i or similar for a cheap daily that I know how to work on, so the Panamera can enjoy the garage a little more. The car is just too good to use up quickly. We'll see though... the house keeps writing up invoices for us.

the parsh is.......good
