I think that after a decade of enjoying Top Gear, even if there were some episodes which many of us would like to forget about :), this show deserves a proper good bye. I think this clip from the very end of the Series 13 fits here perfectly, especially due to the last words of JC.

The silent credits thing was a bit too much imo. What show has ever done a credits sequence absolutely zero sound? No ambient noise, no nothing.

Unlike normal, it wasn't ending on a happy note, so the lack of music drove the somber point home. It's the last time those credits would ever roll.

The silent credits reminded me of 24. Instead of the usual ticking clock, when certain characters died they got a "silent clock" at the end. Very poignant, quite moving.

Ah yes, the silent credits... Much more common than one would think.
Game of Thrones used them just recently in the "Hardhome" episode... To great effect.

Been saving a 10 since nothing is ever perfect, but since I've giggled yet again on a 3rd viewing (thanks to friends also wanting to see it), I guess it was a good episode despite the impending final final credits. Anyway, the whole 22 seasons of TGUK deserves a 10 for being the best thing on my TV for several years running (although the BBC doesn't seem share my sentiments). The lack of 'last show' promotion and the voice-over shrunken credits was a final 'finger' to the Beeb's biggest money spinner - nice!

I'm surprised Jeremy's 'ahem' moment on the snowy indoor ski 'incline' didnt get edited out by the Beeb nitpickers. After all, the sign with the once-offensive word was clearly shown.

I used to hold the BBC and its productions in the highest regard, but their handling of two situations recently, and worse, confusing them as equal, has knocked them off that pedestal. Adding to my BBC confusion is their silly threats to websites like this, then shooting themselves in the foot with their solution to a fracas over a meal. But by re-inventing TGUK they've certainly sorted out the piracy thing

A bittersweet end. Thanks for all the fun, falling pianos and busted caravans! :)

It occurred to me this morning that certain things made the final edit simply because it was the last time we would see them on the show. I'm fairly sure Clarkson's "I hate working on Top Gear" would never have appeared otherwise and I bet if I were to watch it back I would spot a lot more veiled references.

I think people might be reading too far into things due to the circumstances of the episode "I hate working on Top Gear" for sure would have gone in the episode as it's funny if it weren't for the fracas then that line would just have been a funny outburst of frustration.

I can't complain having a French classic in the final.

They took themselves a little too serious with that silent ending; which I think isn't fitting for the general tone of the show. They always leave stranded presenters behind without a tear, so they could have done the same here. I bet they had big arguments on the ending.

Looking on the bright side: we'll have a fresh new Top Gear show and possibly a fresh NetFlix car show with Jeremy as well.

I can understand the sentimentality of giving this a "10", but it wasn't worth that ... I'd say 4/10 at best. I found myself skipping through large chunks just to get to the end. And so, it is over. I am sad, but not as sad as I could have been, had I not given up on the show many seasons ago. I hope they can reinvent themselves and maybe consider a return to their roots in their next venture, rather than continuing the slapstick rubbish of recent series. As for the Top Gear brand, I'll have to watch the first few efforts (of ginger and friends) at least, but I fear it will be like Fifth Gear, maybe not in style but in desirability to watch and I won't bother with it after a couple of episodes.

Too bad that "the incident" happened during this season ... beacuse I really think that 22. season would have been of the best TG seasons ever ...
I really enjoyed both films. 10/10
Thank you Jeremy, Richard & James!

I thought the episode was quite poor, and it makes it clear for me that what has transpired surely is for the better.
They really need to revitalize themselves, and they have that opportunity now.

Oh BTW, what the hell is up with Richards porn donut?

When I saw that live, I honestly did wonder if it was indeed the end. It was so well done, and so effective.

"On that bombshell?"

I agree with you on this and did not think it was worth mentioning before. Aside from the "fracas", there were a few bits in the two movies which I thought were in there just because there was time. Compared to other comparable movies, these seemed very stretched out at times (which I enjoyed, like James and Jeremy giving their opinions on the classic cars, or the long montage which i skipped on the second viewing though).

References to the fracas I'm not sure, I think they tried to tone it down a lot with the pub scene, but I do remember some other stuff from Clarkson, might have to rewatch though to be specific.

Anyway, now I've forgotten what I came here to post originally.

watching that right after seeing the last JC/RH/JM top gear made me cry a little
the end of an era

You must account for the fact that they were intended to be broken up by studio crosses when they were shot. There's even a "back to the studio" in there that Richard then corrects in his VO. But yeah, they felt overly long.

As for the elephant, I have recently watched series 22 and on two occasions they used the term "elephant in the room", so it seems they settled on that theme for ep8.

All sentimentality aside, I gave it an 8, points deducted because of the long segments and no JC in the studio.

Well, that was quicker than expected...just saw an ad for this episode on BBC Canada. It'll air on July 11th.
