Just wondering, because ive been bored and read some old stuff and MAN DO YOU GUYS HATE HIP-HOP,

in all honesty i don't really listen to rap much, but if it wasn't for Schooly Ds intro to the show "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" i would have never realised that i didn't actually hate that show (hell, now i like it)

I mean sure there has been crap, but its not like their wasn't the same level of crap in Rock, or techno, or whatever.

for what its worth i mainly listen to either Classic Rock or Techno like early Junkie XL (or anything driven/theatrical enough that it has or could be used in a top gear episode :p)

Sorry does not connect to me - the performers are not talking about things I 'recognise' and mostly I do not understand the lyrics.

/Edit It does occur to me to say that most of Punk passed me by too.

What annoys me is that every thing they say has gone through the shizzlenator, for example thing being thang, but what annoys me even more is that every single song they peform is always about, whores, gangs, drugs, or money.

This rap song, Tupac - Runnin is simply amazing, I don't really like rap but this song is just so much better than the majority of rap music out there.

No sirree, I sure don't hate rap. Pretty much the main music I've listened for some ~10 years of my life. Nowadays I listen to pretty much everything (from rock to pop and whatever sounds good), but old skool rap (80's and 90's) is still da bomb. Through them I've grown an interest towards funk and other groovy music.

I agree with you on the point that current rap songs (even though I haven't listened to anything recent for a while) sounds like it's made for either the dance floor or for people with piss where their brain should be. Chuck D should give them a good whoopin'.

And oh yeah, been a fan of these guys:

And Viper, shut up :p

I'll give the old school Hip Hop it's dues, but this new cookie cutter bling bling shizzle crap needs to die. In a fire. With Cancer. And Lupus. With an ice pick shoved in the right lung. And that Chinese torture of a thousand paper cuts. After being castrated. With a rusty knife.

And while every genre has its share of bad artists, they haven't become so cookie cutter as the rap industry has. Not to mention, most rock songs tend to leave my intelligence in tact. I feel like I loose 5 IQ points every time I listen to (c)rap.

No, I'm not bitter.

I don't listen to anything that you would currently hear on MTV however i really like some of the "underground" and older hiphop like Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Jurrasic 5, Swollen Members, Public Enemy, pretty much anyone from Quannum Projects and some early gangsta rap. I like my rap to be free of bitches and hoes and "the club" and all that gang shit*.

For your consideration

I have a special, burning, passionate hatred for rap. But, if you like rap, well, that's your own personal preference and that's fine (that's not to say that I won't keep my distance from you, though :p)

Just, whatever you do, don't call it music, because it isn't. Music is one or more talented people developing harmonious tones. Music is not repeating a 3-second synthesizer pattern 278 times while saying "shnizzle ma wizzle pizzle" over top of it. End of story.

oh man i have a feeling it's gonna get hot in here

<rant>
Hiphop is music you have to understand unlike most other genres where the focus is on the instuments hiphop is focused on the Lyrics. Writing and performing a good verse takes some serious talent and skill (same with making the beats) I hate that when people don't like something they just dismiss it. Country music to me is shit... total utter shit it brings nothing to the table that isn't done better by rock/alt but sad as it makes me it is still music and the artists are definitly musicians.

I like rap, but only if it's by artists from 1998 or older. I think it was about then that it just kinda died. New rap can go to hell for all I care.

This is what I like:

On the other hand, I also like classical/orchestral music and opera.

^^mos def:thumbup: Would be great if the people that like rap could post their fav. non bitches and hoes videos in this thread. Haters, please leave the thread, come on, nothing more to see..

Rap is great! Except for the stuff that isn't, obviously.

I think raps main problem today is that the only stuff that gets played on the radio is this new-age 'Gangsta' shit that everybody hates. The stereotypical "hoe, bitch, gat, cuz" nonsense. Gangsta Rap, as a sub-genre used to be great but it died about, oh, roughly March 9th, 1997 at about 12:30am. You can look it up if you want.

Since then it's been nothing but that Fifty Cent fellow and his honky friend with the ex-wife. You know who I mean.

To hear real rap these days you either have to go Old School or Underground and both sound pretentious so nobody listens to you...

Snoop Dogg. He used to wanna be the best of the rap dons. Now his only one concern is goin platinum. And his skills has since decreased, and the inner hunger ceased now content, just as long as fame and cash come.

Man you're really ignorant. I guess you can be excused though since most likely you're young and grew up with what' s "poppin'" on MTV right now.

The rest of us who still remember the early to mid nineties can appreciate the genre more I guess.

Am i the only person here who doesn't hate Rap?

Put me down for another "Yes" and get that crap out of here.

Forget the "war on Terror" if we are going to declare war on ideas then I say rap is high on my hit-list.

Seconded.

Yous guys should listen to a song called 'Deception' by a group called 'Blackalicious'. Like all proper songs it has real lyrics that tell a story.

It harshly derides the shitty, soulless rap you're all so weary of and it's a good song!
